Subject: Syyd had some unexpected oral surgery today

Colm_Jackson ( ) posted Tue, 12 February 2002 at 4:55 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 10:36 PM

Hi everybody, Syyd went in for a routine filling in a molar, and wound up having oral surgery. Apparently, her regular dentist opened the tooth, found a very big infection, and Syyd was in a LOT OF PAIN. Because of the size of the infection she was sent immediately to a specialist, with a gaping hole in her mouth, where they worked for five hours to clean her tooth out. The infection spread into her jaw, so it took a lot of anesthetic and patience, but she's home, telling us what it was like to get a needle straight into a root canal and with a face that looks like she was punched at close range, and in a lot of pain. She sends her best, and says she will be back tomorrow. She is going to bed, and taking some pain medication. Colm

Tell her to take care and to use the full range of her antibiotics. Also aren't certain liquids better for antibotics. For example cranberries. And last but not least. I've heard that there is some new technique where they can implant. Basically sponge material into the gum line this will grow to replace bone material which could have been lost due to a root canal. She may want to look into that. I imagine that it is not cheap. BUT it could help he mouth! Otherwise don't feed her nuts or vinegar. Bsteph

Cranberry juice is very good for the immune system etc. It is VERY important to finish the whole course of antibiotics, but if Syyd experiences any adverse reactions, such as an unusual rash or whatever, she should contact her dentist/doctor/specialist right away. I'm sure Syyd would have been given this information anyway...but just in case! Here's some flowers for you Syyd!

I'm the forums official dental professional :~) (15 years experience)....tell Syyd she did good by trying to save the tooth instead of having it pulled. She should be proud of herself...I'm sure she feel better within a couple of days. The mouth heals incredibly fast. My husband is having a root canal tomorrow.....I'm not gonna tell him about this! Best wishes for a speedy recovery Syyd! Beautiful flowers PC!

I am, therefore I create.......

hmm....I'm there with ya! Dentists are a nightmare for me in general - my fear of needles is so severe that I normally have the work done and cope with the pain... don't laugh, but meditative techniques work phenominally well in this situation, and my guy normally allows me 5 mins to 'prepare myself' before he starts, even if he did think I was mad the first time! Strangely enough it was a back molar for me last time too... You've got my sympathy, and hopefully it'll wear off soon enough! (The pain, not the sympathy..lol) (",)
