Help me!!! When i try to open a file (created by me) Carrara crashes. Only with that file. I have tried this: -rebuild the desktop -trashes the pref. -make a copy of the file -import the file into C. -change the name of the file but he don't work. Someone have a solution? Is a very important file!!! Thanks in advance.TOXE

Once upon a time I remember seeing info that said something about texture maps (specified within the shaders) that were moved (or changed, renamed) that Carrara couldn't find & therefore crashed. You may try & "import" the scene to a new assembl room project and not use the "open" command. Don't know if that will help. Have you tried to assign more ram to Carrara? The file may be too big to handle with the previous save. Carrara tends to "bloat" files with meshes in them.

Usually you must delete a file that causes an application to crash. However, I checked a typical Carrara file in BBEdit, and it looks like you can search it for the part that causes it to crash, if you have a similar file to compare. Text editing of Poser files (cr2, obj) is routine, so maybe text editing of Carrara files is just as easy. I pasted the start of a file below:

3DC {
 asci 0
 vs "1.0"
 sf "Carrara 1.0"
 vers ""
 prvw 0
 CamL {
  CamN "Camera 1"
  }
 Modu {
  srnm {
   xdat {
    name ""
    comt ""
    widt 640
    heig 480.00000000
    dpi 72
    pxlr 1
    kpro 0
    dept 8
    C 1
    A 0
    D 0
    I 0
    N 0
    P 0
    S 0
    came "Camera 1"

If you can't get it back, you can send the file to Eovia . Charles Brissart, who's in charge of the development of Carrara Studio 2 has sent a message on Yahoo Groups saying that they are looking for files that don't behave correctly in Carrara so they can fix the problem for Carrara 2 . Charles' e-mail address : charles@eovia.com . They prefer if you zip or stuff the file, of course . Good luck !

Is there a spherically mapped shader in tis particular file? I work in an ad agency and a co-worker of mine both run Carrara on Mac systems (both OS 9 and 10). We've found a bug in the program that automatically crashes Carrara when we try to re-open a file where there is a spherical map. Our only way around it is to open a new document in Carrara, import the old file, and change the offensive shader. Other than large file size, this is the only thing we've found that crashes the program.

hmmmm, thats interesting. i work on a mac and i've noticed a problem with the spherical shader as well. but in my case it just won't work period. i can't get it to work no matter what i try. as soon as i pick spherical as the method in the shader tree, the program crashes. i guess i'll have to stay away from space scenes.

What version of C. are you all running. I just tied it and it seems to work just fine. I am running C. on a G-4 with 512 or RAM. Carrara Version 1.1

THANKS to all, but, for now i've not resolved the problem... For nyar1ath0tep (congrat for the nick) your solution is very interesting and i have tried some tests but.... For scifirex, the spherical map is also my doubt... For cristianr, i'm running on a G4 466 with 384 of RAM Carrara version 1.1. Waiting for other news. Regards, TOXE
