Yep, here we are again, at the end of yet another Vue Challenge. I don't know about the rest of you, but I especially enjoyed this past month's theme. :) OK, so you have to place your votes in this thread. As usual, we'll have 48 hours to do so, beginning at the time this is posted, and ending 48 hours later. And then, of course, the winner will get to decide on the theme for the February challenge. Oh jeez... I kept thinking I should try and do something for this month, but with all my puter problems I never did get around to it... now I took a look and am glad I didn't. Those are all wonderful pic's. You guys out did yourselves this month!! Like to vote for them all, but since that doesn't quite work... I'll pick Myske. I have to admit that one made my jaw hit the desk... ~G~

They are all wonderful! Very tough decision but.... I feel MikeJ has the look. :)

Myske for me too, although all the others were fantastic,that one is outstanding.

I'm voting for Myske.

I will vote for "Marvelous" Marvilla. She (he?) did a very nice composition. The atmosphere, the work on the materials and the delicate painting effect create a charming image. Anyway you all did very good work (especially Mike, Tradivoro and Jilly) !

Myske's image was definitely my favorite... but now I have some reservation about it.

I first though that the stones, the terrains and the grass were done in VUE and that only a few trees were imported pictures. That's the reason why I was so impressed by it when it appeared in the gallery. Now that I have studied it a bit longer I can see clearly that the whole foreground is an imported image. There is aliasing on it and we can notice the border of the 2d plane. The background is surely also an imported image. That leaves us with only two elements done with VUE : the water and the sky.

I personnally think that it went too far concerning "alpha plane". The "Challenge' was to combine 2D and 3D (like all the other did) and not importing the picture of a landscape and rendering it in VUE ! Besides, a software like Photoshop is a better tool than VUE for this kind of layering / editing (and no need to wait for rendering !).

But don't get me wrong Myske, the artwork is still great : in the "mixed medium" gallery I would give it a 10 !

Anyway, this whole "alpha plane exercice" was maybe interesting to see how we can put 2D contents in a 3D scene but concerning learning the advanced features of VUE it was quite useless. Importing the picture of a tree is surely easier than creating one in 3D, but then forget about advanced material editing / texture mapping, alternative camera angles and animations !

Hope the next challenge will be good and sorry for leaving this one aside, the theme was not my cup of tea :(

I have to say, I was REALLY torn between two of them, specifically, Marvilla's and sittingblue's, because I think out of all of them, those two best encompassed the Hudson River School idea. But, we can only vote for one, so I have to go with Marvilla, for the sheer complexity of the image and the incredible colors, materials, and overall design. It genuinely looks like a painting to me. Sittingblue's picture also has that same sort of charm to it, and that definitely would have been my second choice. I think Myske's image was in fact very beautiful, but it has a more photographic look to it. I think tradivoro's was awesome for several reasons, most notably the idea behind it. For that matter, I thought they were all very good, and the entries get better each month. :)

This month I vote for Marvilla... I think it's a beautiful composition and her use of painting type effects really brought it to another level... If I had a second vote, I would go with Myske, I think she did a great job of capturing the spirit of the Hudson River School...

I love them all. Difficult to choose. I specially like Myske and MikeJ, I will vote for MikeJ, because Myske only did it with planes from other images. Guitta

I also have to go with Marvilla. The colors are spectacular and the composition is fantastic. This was a fun Challenge and I learned much from it. All the entries are very good.... it's nice to be a part of this great group of people :)

To me every entry was a winner in this month's challenge. But in regards to Myske's image, even though it is particularly lovely, I will have to agree with audity's assessment. The overall effect could have easily been achieved using any 2d application which defeats the purpose of using Vue, in my opinion. That being said, my vote this month goes to MikeJ. This was a fun challenge and I have to add a big thanks to tradivoro for coming up with it! Marvilla

Big thanks to Paul for such a great theme! It was really a challenge and also fun to work with. When I have the time, I want to play with this idea some more. :) I'd really like to make more than one vote this month - please? No really, I'm very impressed at the images that were presented; everyone did a great job and the pictures are so rich with depth and mood. Hm...let's see, I'm going to need four votes, okay? I'll need them for Marvilla, jgmart, sittingblue and Axe555(2). Huh? What do you mean just one vote?? I got ten great images narrowed all the way down to four - I thought that was doing good! sigh Okay, I'll try to narrow it down some more... Two? Can I have two votes? hm...okay, okay. Just one, I get it. Alright, just one vote...and I cast it for Marvilla because the detailing in that scene just really blew me away and I think she did an awesome job on the alpha trees and, well all the rest, too. ::whew!:: Really tough choices this month! A big well done to everyone!! :)

I'm going to vote for Marvilla, On real carefull look that picture must have been hard to make and hard to render so you get my vote.

Very difficult to choose but I'd have to plump for Marvilla because of the deft composition of a complex scene and the richness of the detailing. Myske's is gorgeous and misses my top spot only because it's more a superb example of inline compositing than a constructed Vue render. If this wasn't a specifically Vue challenge it would have got my vote - I know from hard experience it takes great skill and patience to integrate 2D elements into within a 3D framework as well as Myske's image! All the images were fantastic but the two above were definately the stand-outs for me.

My vote goes to Myske.

I believe everybody did very nice work, and I think the challenge was excellent and brought out much creativity.

Very difficult! My vote is for Mike J . They are all beautifull, but having only one vote ... Hope I will understand better next time Didn't had the time to make a new pic due to loosing the first vue and getting this. Regards Myske

Hello everyone :) Well, I am not going to vote since I don't participate in those challenges (but always look at them!), but this month I have to say something ... I am very impressed by the artisitic quality of this set of pictures, they are excellent :) So, I just want to congratulate you all, you did a marvelous job with this theme :) The page where we see all the thumbs should be called Vue d'Esprit Hot 10 :) Elaine

I vote for Marvilla because I like the composition the best. I have to agree with Odyssey on the artistic quality as a whole though. :) Rich

I vote for Marvilla. Perfect coloring, lighting and composition..

Sorry guys... but as far as Hudson River school goes, my vote will be Varian. This is a rare picture that made me stop and stare for a while. Hopefully I will have more time to participate next month (I know... I said that last month.. .but that was without counting with Return to castle wolfenstein, Medal of Honor, Naldur's gate II). I wish I had 48 hours days...
