As a person on my 4th month at poser, I was curious if there was a poser 1, and what did it look like, how long has renderosity been in the picture and daz.... thought this would be an interesting topic especially for us newbies All pics and comments welcome, really interested in knowing the past of all this... thanks

heyas; go to curious labs' site, they used to have a nostalgia gallery with poser 1 stuff and pre-release designs and bloopers and all. dunno exactly where, though.

As far as this site goes: I can't remember that far back. ;-) This site has gone through several owners and name changes over the years. I've been here for just about all of it. ScottA

I bought Poser version 1 in 1996. It came on 2-3 floppies, and was made by Fractal Designs. I still have the floppies around, but am too lazy to find them. I still have the manual! I never did learn that version of Poser! I lost track of Poser till last year. At that time Metacreations had its name on Poser 4, but Curious Labs was already the new owner.

Poser history in a pic. BTW - Poser 3 not missing, just that it looks like P4 but P4 has many more features. ;=]

The story of Poser would not be that long, yet incredible improving with each bew version! :o) When I recall the ordeal of texturing clothes on bodytextures and using bump maps to recreate the illusion of clothing...U get goosebumps..yet, we did that for sooo long! LOL DAZ was in the picture from the very start..well deserving the role! As to the story of this site..it would be an epic tragedy similar to War & Piece if written ... as many endless pages as well! hehe! Oh sweet and sour memories of the past! :o) Rena

Oh, do we want to go there. All the ill feeling about Poser Forum and all..... Renderotica hiving off, the battles with 3D commune. I had a tiny bit part when I provided a place for erotic images when the Poser list suffered one of it's early flame wars about nudity, that developed into 1st-shock.com and 'rotica came about the same time. I got Fractal Designs' Poser 1 free on a Computer Arts CD, fell in love and bought everything else since. It was developed originally by a bloke called Larry Weinberg who still has much to do with his creation. There's a way of reverting back to the Poser 2 UI but I've completely forgotten how to do it. Ah well here goes! A lady called Willow started a site called Poser Forum, it was her home site and pre-dates 'rosity. I'll gloss over the ill feelings, suffice it to say there are still many open wounds. The forum was very popular and Renderosity and Poser Forum both grew out of her efforts. We should, perhaps say no more than that we owe her a debt of gratitude and acknowledge her vital contribution to a our community. In the early days of 'rosity I remember one of our members put up a free model of a dog turd just to witness the feeding frenzy! Obviously, that feeding frenzy led to a lot of bandwidth charges and 'rosity became more commercially aware. Can anyone remember what Renderosity's original name was? I'll leave it there I'm sure others will come in and flesh it out ..... (please, please though, no flames this time, play nicely...)

OK, to be more accurate, DAZ3D was once part of Zygote. The division that handled the Poser-related stuff "spun-off" to become DAZ3D. Zygote still remains. If you go to their site, and click on an icon for Poser-related items, you go directly to DAZ3D.

I started it all. I gave Larry Weinberg the program, then set up all the Poser websites to use as my personal ant farm, to peek inside the psyches of you mortal worms. My team has carefully documented all of your information, so that I may know all of your hopes and fears, and can customize Hell into the pit of eternal torment you all so richly deserve. Oh omnipotence, I'd really hate to be cast into the deepest pit of hell with someone like Catherine Zeta Jones..... ta!

I'm pretty sure you can access the old Poser3 interface in P4, but don't remember how to do it! PS: I always suspected that this was all Legume's fault...

DEL ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 7:31 PM

I dont remember the interface hotkeys either but I do remember the TREEMAKER type "hair" and the interface for the treemaker should appear.;-)

DEL ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 7:50 PM

I just noticed, a couple of pages back, there is a posting about the treemaker. And a link to a freeware utility that will make the hair object usable. tutorial too! So Doc, your telling me that if I stop using poser the hair on my balls will fall off?

To get the old Poser interface type "po2".
To return to the regular interface, type "po3".

And here's another walk down memory lane: an early advert for Poser 1
