Ohh, a new gallerie :-)))

whoopdat ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 12:13 PM

I'm glad they decided to add this. Now, everyone, go spam your new stuff over there please. Thanks. :D

virchual ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 12:21 PM

Couldn't agree more whoopdat. Hopefully now this forum will return to being a community where ideas, infomation and poser models, textures etc are exchanged freely. And maybe the Poser gallery will become a little more manageable as about 50% of the images should be now posted in the new gallery. Happy days. Well done admins.

Cin- ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 12:30 PM

FYI, A lot of the vendors asked for this as well... I've posted advertisements to this forum, simply because there was no where else to do it... Now there is. :)

Virchual I hope that you are not suggesting that if a merchant produces a piece of art that contains their products that they cannot post it to the main gallery? I spend a long time on my images and yes they often contain my stuff because I origionaly make them because they are what I need for an image, does that make it any less art? Check my gallery and then tell me I can't post to the poser gallery.

I intend to put all my beta-testing images in this new gallery. That is, any image I produce in the process of beta-testing will likely end up in that gallery. Once a product is released, however, I will probably post anything I make with those products to my normal gallery. Does that seem like a reasonable use for this gallery?

Ladyfyre-graphics ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 1:43 PM

That seems reasonable to me Kieraw :) It's what I was intending too.

What a wonderful idea! Maybe the images can go in both places with a little note on the one that goes into the poser gallery that product info can be found in the product gallery? hmm not sure because I guess that would just increase the amount of images being uploaded? .. Well I don't know but I would guess the artists are capable of deciding were the image should go .. I am just happy to have all the product info in one place so when I need something I can go take a look at different renders of the product.,as well as a forum to talk about the product. I would guess the new gallery will go through some growing pains until eventually it defines it's self.

eirian ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 2:00 PM

{{I'm glad they decided to add this. Now, everyone, go spam your new stuff over there please.}} That's not helpful. A lot of the merchants, myself included, pushed for this, so we would have a specific place to post. If people are going to suggest we can no longer post anything about our products in the Poser gallery, or the Poser forum...well, we're likely to push just as hard for the new gallery & forum to be removed. Work with us, not against us, and we'll be able to make this into something that benefits everyone. No one likes an over-saturation of advertising, but the merchants are members of this community too.

Cin- ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 2:08 PM

Well said eirian, Alla, and kieraw. :)

Hey, as far as I am concerned you can post it anywhere you want, that way I won't miss a thing... maybe.. LOL... but.... it is nice to know I can go to one area now and get to see it all!!

whoopdat ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 2:26 PM

Let me clarify: when you want to create a post about your new product, there's a place for it to go now aside from in the forum for which program, if indeed it is meant to be used within a particular program, it is used for.

I'm not suggesting, nor did I imply, that you can't talk about products or mention anything about them here. I said to redirect the advertisements over there. That's what it is for, after all.

I'm glad to see both added now. One, maybe it'll help make this forum, and to a lesser extent the Poser gallery because of the intertwined aspect of art and advertisement, easier to read for those of us who are looking more for questions and to help out. And, it'll be easier for us to go to the new forum and gallery when we're done answering questions or asking them and see what we should be spending money on.

'K? :)

LordsWarrior ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 2:31 PM

LW laffs Seems the merchants arent liked here, but I wonder if Rendo would remain here if there were no merchants. I'll still be posting any poser related images here, whether they include new products of mine or not. Im a merchant, but Im also a poser artist. However..I will post my "ads" at the new forum. -LW

Mosca ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 3:30 PM

Great idea, and about time. It is annoying, wading through all the "new product announcements" here and in the main gallery. If I want to know what's new in the marketplace, I'll go there and click on "what's new."

Mosca ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 3:37 PM

"Seems the merchants arent liked here, but I wonder if Rendo would remain here if there were no merchants." Commerce is a necessary evil; and I don't think anyone dislikes the merchants, per se. But it does try one's patience when the whole site seems to have turned into a billboard for so-and-so's latest texture or hair or prop, or whatever. "A lot of the merchants, myself included, pushed for this, so we would have a specific place to post. If people are going to suggest we can no longer post anything about our products in the Poser gallery, or the Poser forum...well, we're likely to push just as hard for the new gallery & forum to be removed." Post, by all means--it's your site, after all; us mere customers will just have to lump it. But maybe you could bear in mind the difference between overt advertising and discreet "product placement." Otherwise the new forum and gallery will be moot before they even get started.

LordsWarrior ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 3:42 PM

mosca.... Thats kewl what youve said. Im proud of stuff I make and I want to share my images with the poser forum ppl too, but dont want to be linched by using any of my products In my store. Question...If post a genuine artisitc poser image using new products Ive made and just put "Castle available in market place" is that ok in your opinion? -LW

Mosca ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 3:50 PM

"Question...If post a genuine artisitc poser image using new products Ive made and just put "Castle available in market place" is that ok in your opinion?" You have my blessing. Go forth and advertise. Seriously, I think that seems pretty benign; and I think it's fine and often helpful when props and textures, etc., are credited when they appear in images by other artists--even if they happen to be cohorts or beta-testers or whatever for the merchant who happens to be selling that particular prop. But yeah, it might be nice if we could at least try to maintain the illusion that the galleries are about something other than R'osity's bottom line.

virchual ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 3:51 PM

I would say that "Castle available in market place" is an advertisment. If you produce "a genuine artisitc poser image" why do you need to advertise specific items. Credit the creators if you wish but there is no need to advertise specific items that is what the new gallery is for. A whole new gallery all to yourselves. Why the need already to advertise in other galleries? Just my opinion.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 3:55 PM

Ok, so how do you guys feel about heads up type notices. Something where the subject line would read "Product announcement" and the text would read "New (insert type of product here) available in marketplace. For information check the Showcase forum" and then include the link to the appropriate thread. That way, those who are interested can look and those who aren't know to just skip that thread. Would that make y'all happy? Kate

Mosca ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 3:59 PM

"Credit the creators if you wish but there is no need to advertise specific items that is what the new gallery is for. A whole new gallery all to yourselves. Why the need already to advertise in other galleries?" Seems like a valid point, too. Perhaps the fear is that no one but the merchants would ever go to a gallery entirely devoted to advertising--like having a t.v. station with nothing but merchandise for sale. What? QVC? Oh. Nevermind.

Mosca ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:02 PM

I dunno, Kate. Seems like defeating the purpose of the whole thing. I thought the idea was to move the ads and "product announcements" out of the main forums and galleries and into their own space, where people can find them if they want them, but won't be overwhelmed by them if they don't. Your way doesn't seem any different from biz as usual to me.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:02 PM

hehe I prefer HSC myself.

LordsWarrior ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:04 PM

Soooo..If I make an image using other ppls stuff and also mine...I should credit them but not myself? -LW

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:16 PM

Well, Mosca, it's going to take a while before people even realize the showcase forum is there, that's why I was asking about the "heads up" type posts.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:18 PM

LW, when I look at an image in the gallery I just naturally assume that anything not credited to someone else is the artist's own work, be it props, textures, lighting, etc. I think that's a pretty natural assumption that most of us make (other than the obvious stuff like vicky or posette).

virchual ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:19 PM

No thats not what I'm saying LW. As an example post a pic in one of the software forums and credit as; textures by X models by Y and Morphs by me. However if you feel the need to add Textures by X, now available in the market place, or Morphs by me, now available in the market place, then that image should go in the gallery that has been created for it ie the "The product gallery" Again this is only my oppinion but that is the way I see it

LordsWarrior ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:22 PM

V....ok...so leave the credits same just remove any mention of the MP? ok...fair enuf.. -LW

Mosca ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:24 PM

LW: I can only speak for myself, and I'm not even a marketplace customer these days (boycotting till C&D is restored--I may be in for a long wait), but I almost never read all that crediting crap under a gallery image anyway, unless there's a prop or tex or whatever in the image that looks interesting. So if this was my site (it's not--I lost it to Legume in a poker game), I'd say sure, fine, credit whoever you want. In the past, I've refused to credit items, figures, tex or whatever unless they were free; paying for an item means it's mine, and I'm under no obligation to advertise for the guy who's billing my credit card. Nor do I toot my own horn on the rare occasions when something I made appears in one of my images (texture modified by me! Vaseline prop by me! Pose by me! Lights and camera angle by me! Gimme a break!). I figure if people want to know where I got something, they'll ask. But then, I'm not selling anything here, either.

Mosca ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:27 PM

What virchual said.

bjbrown ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:30 PM

If there is a message on the main page for a while announcing a new gallery and forum, then there would be no need to post "heads up" ads here to advertise the new forum.

LordsWarrior ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:42 PM

kewl thx ppl...just wanted to get some forum goers opinions. -LW

Ladyfyre-graphics ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 4:54 PM

Hmm Katie I know what your getting at with presuming stuff not credited is the artists own work but my hair in the free stuff section has been downloaded more than 10000 times and only a handful of people ever credit it to me, not that I'm bothered mind, it's enough for me to know it's liked and used, but that doesn't mean that they made it ;) Same goes for me when I upload an image, I have a goldfish memory and while I try my hardest to credit everyone whose stuff I use, I sometimes forget someone.

I like the merchants, liked seeing PIPs (Products in progress lol) here, now I'll have to go there I guess. Oh well

ronknights ( ) posted Sun, 17 February 2002 at 7:44 PM

It appears that some people actually don't like merchants. I find that a difficult attitude to understand. The way I see it, we need each other, and we can work very well together. I've never been in a situation where I could interact so closely with other artists who just happen to produce items for a small fee. These are not "big corporations" who assault you with inane commercials, and try to change your values. These are fellow artists. This is a community. Let's make the best of our assets. Ron

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 18 February 2002 at 4:27 AM

I like the merchants, just look at my history of buying and you will see that I own more than my share of renderosity store items. But I do get tired of seeing ads here, and I am glad they have been moved to a different area. It wasn't bad at first, just a few people put their ads in here. But it HAS gotten way out of hand now, and I for one am tired of being barraged by them. I usually hit the new stuff area of the store before I even come in here so if I want to see more renders I will either ask or go to the new forum to check them out. I think that people should post their work here, but if they are the person selling the item they are crediting they should not be allowed to state it here. Marque

ronknights ( ) posted Mon, 18 February 2002 at 6:52 AM

Actually, I quite disagree. I have only seen a few ads every day. A very small amount when compared to the entire total, and I read just about every new forum message a few times a day. I certainly don't like the term "should not be allowed." It sounds like someone has done something wrong. Ron

movida ( ) posted Mon, 18 February 2002 at 8:10 AM

Marque: It's probably related to individual habits... I come here before I hit the store g, just how I got used to doing it.

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 18 February 2002 at 10:11 AM

Ron that is your own perception, I never stated that someone was doing something wrong. I was just under the impression that this forum was for people to share ideas, tips and renders of wip. I really don't care one way or the other if people come in here with ads, just stating my opinion about it as everyone else is. There was obviously a problem or there wouldn't be a new forum for the merchants to advertise in. And I'm certainly not the one who created it. I haven't been in that much lately to make a difference one way or the other. Marque

Marque, sometimes we don't mean something, but it sounds that way after we've written the words. I just picked up a rift or tension between merchants and others. I've also seen a fanatical defense of Free Stuff people. Both "trends" worry me. I "just want us all to get along." By the way, I'd like to take this opportunity to announce a new Free Stuff project I'm working on. I'm designing facial expressions for the Millennium Girls. Once I get the set done, I'll offer it in Free Stuff! Here is an example of a goofy face. (I'm not using hair right now because I don't want to detract from the faces!) Ron
