there is a series of books that is excellent for this, there are books in it covering every time period imaginable. We have 2 of the series and they are widly used by re-enacters for source material.Hiya folks, Been a lurker for a while but thought I'd chime in about the Ospery Books. I used too work for a place called the Compleat Strategist that's based in NYC but they do mail orders via UPS. Please don't think this a chance to advertise for them, it's not it's just that these guys have always had a huge collection of these book for as far back as I can remember and they even have some that are out of print. The books are beautiful and were indeed made for the military modeller in mind. Guess it was only a matter of time before someone put it to use in the 3D world. If you folks are interested I can look up the 800 number for mail orders (been a long time since I worked there) If not then please forgive my intrusion Have a great day!

However, most of these images and all the links are of old-time stuff (Napoleonic and before), and I was wanting quick information about modern navy / coastguard / etc uniforms. I looked at this link (the US Navy), and that pointed to the US Marines and the US Coastguard, but one thing that I can't find easily there is close-up pictures of modern uniforms.Sure, Anthony, I think Osprey books are the best for this. They cover the whole uniform story, from dark ages to today. I use them a lot to paint my military models (yes I came to poser because this was remaining me my miniatures work LOL) I think if you go to any specialized shop you will find what you need.

Where can I download (or get in a book on paper) good big images of naval (and other) uniforms including officers? I need good big clear pictures without important details being hidden, not "art".
