10 GB is a lot of bandwith. Usually you won't get over this amount - except you offer a freebie everyone wants to have ;-). What counts for bandwith: ftp transfer (when you up- or download files to your webspace), the traffic that is generated, when visitors come to your website, emails send from your website using an email form, filedownloads from your website (i.e. when you offer some freebies). Usually there should be a FAQ somewhere on this providers site where all this things are explained in detail.

I've just signed up for it - ladyfyre-graphics.com! my own dot com Thanks for the tip pizazz, I've been looking for somewhere for a while now :) One question that has been worrying me though, what happens if I use more than the 10gb bandwidth? Will I be billed for the excess? I really can't afford any whopping unexpected bills and I know that I'm always getting my geocities site tuned off for the day for exceeding the 3gb per month bandwidth....
Thanks Ron I'll do that, I can't get into my account until it is activated on Monday though :(
Alla, usually you have to pay for extra bandwith - well, at least I have if I exceed my maximum for the month. My provider has a FAQ and everything regarding the webhosting service is explained in detail. I am sure the webhost you have signed up will have a TOS and FAQ too. Wow, I just noticed 500MB for $35/year. I have 150 MB and pay about $12 per month. How many domains are included and how many pop3 email accounts do you get?

I had to register my own domain with them (9.99 per year for a .com), so I'm presuming that you can only use one, but you get unlimited pop3s, 4 sub domains, your own cgi bin(?) and very importantly to me, a (very) novice page designer they will have front page 98/2000 support from March 1st.
Hehe, looks like we cross posted Ron:)
10 gigabytes per month is about 341 MB per day for an average month. It means that, every day you could have 341 visitors per day viewing 9 jpegs in your gallery at 100 kB each (plus associated thumbnails and html/cgi code), or 341 people per day downloading a 1 MB zip file (like you might post at Free Stuff) from your server. It sounds like a safe limit, unless you started getting a higher average hit rate than 341 per day in both site visits and remote downloads.
I was looking for somewhere to park my free stuff but going by that I'll have to do it as just one thing a week/month on a rotating basis.
Well I just checked and my free hair prop has been downloaded 13185 times since January 2001, a heck of a lot of bandwidth.
At the bottom of the Hosting Plans page: Additional 1GB of Bandwidth/Month - $1.50 per GB The way their agreement reads, they do not warn you if you are getting close or go over either. Some hosts will help you out and let you know, so I would email them and clarify that. Alla, your hair prop is only 423k. 13k downloads is less than 6GB, but you will obviously want to be carefull with larger files. The one thing that catches my eye is this line in the AUP: You may not use your dedicated server or virtual site to publish material, which Cyberwings determines, at its sole discretion, to be unlawful, indecent or objectionable. For purposes of this policy, "material" refers to all forms of communications including narrative descriptions, graphics (including photographs, illustrations, images, drawings, logos), executable programs, video recordings, and audio recordings. Would nude poser textures, renderings, etc be considered indecent?
This sounds like a very generous offer, better than most I have seen and I've been sort of tracking these things with an eye to switch when my year comes due. The important thing to look for in the Terms of Service is what course of action the provider takes IF you exceed you band width. If A) they stop further downloads that is annoying but okay. B) They let you continue above your limit up to a maximum billable point at which time they stop further downloads. That is annoying but at least you know what kind of charge you will be hit with (this is what my provider does - I've never gone over the limit, by the way). Or C), they blithely let you continue on while racking up unlimited charges. That could be very dangerous. If it's A or B, then fine, no problem. If it's C then be very careful to look at you totals and be ready to pull the plug yourself if the limit is approached. But these limits are pretty generous and you would have to be pretty popular to exceed that 10GB limit (which is entirely possible). jon
