As i was getting carried away demonstrating "modeling" as it applies to painting hair (or anything else, for that matter), it occurred to me that there are many GOOD hair painters out there--Stormi, Dalinise, and Morris leap to mind--and since the hair painting thread's been buried, i wanted to invite others to chime in with general advice.

Please oh please put it up somewhere? I need the practice badly and all the help I can get. I'm trying to create my own "style" of painting hair so to speak and I like to take into consideration as many other styles as possible so that I can create one that works for me....your's differs slightly from any of the others I have see and I would like to see it completed :)

Skye, i learned this from painting in oils, and just apply it here. Generally, i like to use a hair mesh/model/product that's about the right shape to give me guidance as to the lights and darks--so Poser does "step 1" for me--funny, i started using Poser as a kind of electronic mannequin! Then i work into it in post-render as necessary to bring the hair to where i want it. But you can use this general technique for any painting, not just hair. In fact, drapery/cloth is easier. Most of it is learning to see where the light is falling.
