Subject: Any interest on texture painting tutorials?

A random thought - If I made intermediate to advanced texture painting tutorials, would anyone be interested?

Programs would be Photoshop 5.5/6, CorelDraw8, probably a touch of UVmapper, Poser and Bryce. Not every tutorial would cover all programs of course. (ignoring 3rdparty filters for the moment)

Possible topics - texturing with filters, making walls, planning for variations, tiling across seams, pattern building, bumpmapping, transmapping, hairmapping, anticipating bryce render, making texture 'suites' with coordinating BryceMats, using tiled walls in poser/bryce, and making photo-surreal textures for fantasy creatures

Anything else? :)

These won't be started for a bit, as I have to finsih some other stuff first, but I wanted to think about it.

Of course if anyone else wants to do a tut on these subjects - go for it :)

Tips & techniques for creating a photo-realistic character texture. How hand-painting differs. Things to look out for in matching front & back. Making Tiled Textures. Use of layers in "aging & grunging" a prop texture. These might be too elementary for what you have in mind, but I like looking over several viewpoints & tutorials before tackling such Poser Elements as texturing (and I need to refresh my memory every time I try it, don't really have time to stay with any one subject for very long, particulars fade quickly).

The first tutorial doesn't look like it will be a tutorial per se. So far it looks like it will be more an introduction of concepts and overview of UVmapping vs procedural mapping. I'm still fiddling with the other topics - getitng them into a usefual and approachable order. As you can see I'm not done with the planning part. Once I know how I'm organizing these in my head I can start to write individual tutorials. 'Texturing with Filters' will have the bulk of the tutorials so far - explaining 'building block' textures, and how to create various effects. I may ask somebody who models to help out in section 2 - I can only describe things from a texturers perspective. (usually from UVmapper saying 'what the heck is this bit? Name things already!') Here's a list: 1 Approaching Textures for 3Dmodels 2 How to set up your model for best texturing 3 Pattern Building 4 Photosource Textures 5 Making Textures with CorelDraw! 6 Texturing With Filters 7 Tiling Across Seams 8 Setting up a Layered PhotoShop file 9 Making Eyes 10 Using Pshop 5.5/6 Layer affects in texture painting 11 Making Walls 12 Using Tiled Walls In Poser/Bryce 13 Painting Trees 14 Bumpmapping 15 Transmapping 16 Hairmapping 17 Getting old and messy 18 Making Texture 'Suites' With Coordinating Brycemats 19 Using Texture Suites 20 Making Photo-Surreal Textures For Fantasy Creatures 21 3rd Part filters 22 Anticipating Bryce Rendering As you can see some consolidation and rearranging is probable. Bump and transmapping may fall into "Using an alphachannel" instead of standalones - but we'll see. Lyrra
