Subject: I'm new...could someone help me?

I just bought Poser 4, and it doesn't seem to work. If I try to use any of the models from the library, the old Poser 2 model disappears but a new one doesn't appear. Some of the hairstyles will work from the library, though. I'm using Windows XP, which I think might be the problem, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help? ~Roxy

I use Windows XP and haven't been having a problem at all with Poser 4, except and occasional graphic glitch with my GE2. Sounds like you might just have a corrupt install to me. You might want to rename the directory and re-install Poser. After that, then you can delete the renamed directory (I say rename it, so it doesn't install it to the same phsical location, in case there is a bad spot) Then I would make sure to defrag the hard drive. XP is a good system, but it does have some wonky things go wrong with it. Usually a lot to do with the graphics cards. Good luck. J. Dexter

Roxy, I have Windows XP and everything works fine for me. You said something about the old Poser 2 model? Did you have Poser 2 and then upgrade to Poser 4?! If so, maybe there is a problem with the install. Let's see if we can figure this out together. ROn

I just reinstalled, and it works fine now. Thank you both for being so friendly and helpful! ~Roxy

KOOL. I'm really glad. Ron

Ron, I think the Poser 2 character she was talking about is the silly looking dork that defaults when you open Poser. I've changed that to the stick figure because it loads faster. Roxy, glad you got it working. You're going to love it. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Welcome to the Poser Madness. :) Melanie

Make sure you get the Poser 4.03 update from www.curiouslabs.com

ronknights ( ) posted Sun, 24 February 2002 at 9:56 PM

Jeff, It's possible that Roxy's version of Poser might already be up-to-date? She can check the version number before going for the update right?

JeffH ( ) posted Sun, 24 February 2002 at 10:41 PM

Yes that's possible, but as far as I know Curious labs still distributes the unpatched version in their package.

I asked about the version 2 days ago, the numbers in the thread says mine is updated, I bought in Nov.

JeffH ( ) posted Sun, 24 February 2002 at 11:36 PM

The new editions of Poser 4 are version 4.03?

ronknights ( ) posted Sun, 24 February 2002 at 11:39 PM

Jeff, I wouldn't even begin to know myself. But I did learn it's good to check your current version. Heh, I learned after someone else corrected me!

Here is the thread. I take it mine is 4,03. Hope this helps.

When I bought my Poser in Jan, it was 4.03 as well. Guess they burnt a new master.

I think i know what your problem is. I guess your XP is a non-english version, right? I had exactly the same problem when trying to run 4.03 under swedish XP. Poser 4.03 must run on an english XP Curious Labs told me. Different languages has different way of writing numbers:

1.234,56 or 1,234.56

My Poser couldn't read english cr2's using the swedish settings. Changing the XP number format settings doesn't work either. I had to buy an english XP instead...
