Beware the powers of the dark side! This is the model I am currently working on, any opinions would be appreciated. I made an emperor palpatine a long time ago, and lost him from a hard drive crash, so I decided to remake him and he came out much better! I would appreciate some feedback!

WOW!!! I thought I knew him as soon as I saw the eyes... and when I scrolled down as far as the mouth, I knew him absolutely. SUCH an excellent likeness! Amazing work! Wow, wow... that texture. you must have put DAYS into this. One gripe: Palpatine, by the time he reaches this level of depravity, has orange eyes which glow slightly. The glow is accomplished onscreen with makeup and lighting; you might be able to duplicate that. If you don't want to muck with the beautiful work you've already done maybe make additional material pose filesnot that I know how to do thatbut I recall Palpatine's glowingness going up and down, as the occasion demanded. Good gracious that is a beautiful render. No eyelashes and no real brows is a very nice touch. I am very, very impressed.

Only suggestion I have is to turn down the strength on the bump map just a bit - maybe 10% lower than it is now. It makes his face look like it's made of stucco. =) (Or at least 5 layers of pancake makeup g)

Strangechilde ( ) posted Sun, 24 February 2002 at 7:45 PM

No no no... he SHOULD look like that.

Roy G ( ) posted Sun, 24 February 2002 at 8:00 PM

I would suggest Making the skin a little more pale. The color is way to healthy looking for one so old and evil. :) Excellent work though.

Also the orange lines above the lips... way too straight.

Darth_Wookie ( ) posted Sun, 24 February 2002 at 9:18 PM

thanks for all the feedback! Glad to see that you all like it. Do you people know where I could get a decent robe for him? The daz robes for mike dont exactly suit him properly, is there any good robes for him? (I have the hood all set, its just the main body that I am having trouble with.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sun, 24 February 2002 at 10:09 PM

Have you tried thip's Mike robe, here in Free Stuff? It has a hood, posted separately, if you can't get yours to match up.

Strangechilde and Roy_G are right. He's paler and has very yellow almost glowing inhuman-looking eyes. He also has this big honkin' Stuart Freeborn foam rubber forehead/brow appliance, but you've done great work here. Very promising. Hard to really tell what color skin tones are in movies with melodramatic lighting. In ROTJ he looks almost bluish white with red-rimmed glowing yellow eyes.

superbe !!!

Strangechilde ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 5:50 AM

PhilC has some nice wizard's robes that might do the trick, though it has a hood you'll have to take off. PhilC also has a monk's habit in the Marketplace that might suit; I think you can take the hood off of that. I like Thip's robe in the freestuff a lot.

I have to agree, this is done really really well and look forward to seeing him available sometime, since I have recently been reading all of the X-Wing (Rogue Squadron) books and have been in a Star Wars mood myself!! My only suggestion is that perhaps create a seperate MAT pose or texture that would allow his flesh to be more pastey. Since in Return of the Jedi most of his skin coloring was bleached out during Cloning... As for robes, I have been using both PhilC's (as already mentioned here) but also DCORT'S robes where the hood can go up or down or made to hide the face... his robes are for Micheal. Again great work and look forward to seeing this completed!! Jack
