Curious Labs is pleased to announce the availability of our new Shockwave W3D exporter for Pro Pack. Now you can save your Poser animations as 3D Shockwave files that can be viewed on a Web browser. Our exporter uses the PoserPython interface and is currently available for Windows-based computers. We anticipate having a Macintosh version available shortly. Please check back for updates. System Requirements: In order to use the Pro Pack Shockwave W3D Exporter, you must have: - A valid installation of Poser and Pro Pack (Service Release 3 or later). - Macromedia Director 8.5 - Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 & XP. Windows 9x and ME are not supported since problems have been found with these versions.

This really is exciting stuff! I need to upgrade my operating system to take full advantage of the plug-in. I'm sure that the web of the future will be populated by Poser characters strutting their stuff. It'll take time to settle in, Director's not that easy to learn but the potential is incredible.....

what do you need director for?

stewer ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2002 at 4:00 PM

You need Director to open the exported w3d files. Unlike Flash or Viewpoint files, w3d files are pure 3D data and are not viewable in the browser. You have to import them in Director where you can position, script and export them to standalone players or Shockwave files for the net.

whoopee another of the infamous poo-ware ornamental -doesn't do a thing for most of us Curious Labs Product.

whoopee another of the infamous poo-ware ornamental -doesn't do a thing for most of us Curious Labs Product. I'm not so sure about that. Potentially this could make Poser attractive to a whole new user base thus increasing sales and market penetration. This would contribute to making sure that Poser enjoys a long life and continues to be available and improved further. Given our investment in this program and additional models I would say that such efforts do indeed help us indirectly. I don't have much personal use for a w3d exporter either. But then I understand that the world and market often extend well beyond my limited needs. - Jack valero

We at DAZ are ecstatic to see the release of the new Shockwave 3D plug-in for the Pro Pack. Many of you have contacted DAZ since last spring about the release of a Shockwave plug-in. By way of announcement, THIS is the plug-in that many had expected to be released through DAZ. To clarify, Curious Labs had asked us to release this product publically for them due to some agreement restricting them from doing so at the time. As we now see, they have come through for all of us and the product is now publically available. As always, DAZ is concerned with customer service and will always try to do whatever is within our power to serve you better. We apologise for the frustrations that many of you may have felt, but as you can now see, this situation was clearly was out of our hands and solely the decision of Curious Labs. Sincerely, Dan Farr President DAZ Productions

This is huge. I am so excited. Director is an awesome product that has just been made better because of Curious Labs. It definately is not poo-ware

Hmmm.. Interesting...

Stillno plugin for Carrara like 3D MAX, Lightwave, or Cinema 4D though. That is the plugin I'm waiting on!

To clarify what it can do, imagine a Poser animation of about 200-300 frames. The file size for that would be say 3mb even at a high compression. Shockwave 3D will compress that file size down to a fraction of that but there's more, in an ordinary animation you're restricted to just one camera angle with this you have the option to alter the camera action as the thing is playing, want to view the animation from the other side? Easy! Just navigate your way through the 3D world. This is true 3D and not just 3D converted to 2D, it still has limitations but this is the first version just imagine where it'll be in a year or so.

whoopee another of the infamous poo-ware ornamental ->doesn't do a thing for most of us Curious Labs Product. What it does is open a whole new market for Poser & CL. Currently the only other character animation tool for Director3D is 3D Max/Character Studio, which not only costs several grand, but doesn't work very well. And with a whole new market, CL might make enough $ to afford to make Poser better & (unless you are getting paid more than enough to make still images & AVIs with Poser) it opens a whole new commercial market for Poser animators as well..
