Subject: Any interest in a Metasequoia to Wavefront converter?

HellBorn ( ) posted Tue, 26 February 2002 at 1:59 AM ยท edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 2:16 AM

Someone here tried to contact the creator of Metasequoia to find out if he could help to find a solution to the lack of possibilities to by licence the application and get access to file export. I don't knowe if he got any answer, does anyone know? In the mean time i did write a small application to test to translate the Metasequoia file format to Wavefront format and as it seemed pretty easy to do . In the current version I only transfer the objects geometry and it has worked fine this far (on my own models). Is this kind of application of any interest?

Of course, HellBorn, it is:-) for all users who have not 3Dexploration. That's great to do that and to share with us, thanks:-) Guitta

I imagine it would be of interest, but I'd definitely get the Metasequoia inventor's permission first...although I do have to admit that I don't know how that sort of thing works. But really, the .COB format out of Metasequoia works prettty well, although alot of apps (such as Poser) can't import .COB.

I would be interested, but converting Metasequoia files into Wavefornt OBJ would be like giving a "free licence" !
As Mike says : "get the inventor's permission first".

Why don't you use crossroads? I am sorry but I lost where I downloaded crossroads. Bernie

Actually, there are two versions of Metsequoia, the LE version that lets you save in other formats, and the shareware version that does more, but you can't save in any other format than Metasequoias without registering. The only problem with registering is you have to be in Japan to register it. No one else can yet. Hopefully this will change, as I would love to use the full version. There probably is a razor's edge here on legality. Other companies, and people, have made conversion tools for formats that weren't their own. I do not know if royalties had to be paid though.

I sent email to Mizno(Metasequoia inventor) about oversea registering, but have not get answer yet. I'll email to him again... Hatsumi

Crossroads can't read or write mqo files. I also want to add some functionality such as scaling. I did download crossrods dough to se if it has those options (have not tried it yet). When it comes to contacting the inventer I will wait and se if Hatsumi can get in contact with him first. (Hatsumi: Please let me know if you succed.) About the legal issue of this I know nothing. I'm only a 3D hobbyist not a layer. ;)
