Subject: Mac, PC, zip, exe................. suggestion..........

Would it be possible please to also indicate in the store whether the file is a zip or a PC exe!!!! The designation PC/MAC doesn't cut it anymore. All zips are cross platform - only the installer exe's are PC only now. 90% of the store items that state PC only are not! I don't want to bother every merchant by IM to find out if it is an exe, which I can't use.

That is not the only difference between a PC and Mac file. There are other small things that make poser files not work from pc to mac

With Martin's MacConverter, MacInstaller and MacConstructor (mac morph manager) all PC files can be used on a mac. They are all free BTW. I have been using his utilities for 3 years now and I have not had any problems except for corrupt zips and PC exe's!

Ah, I guess many of us PC'ers don't get into that so we just say PC Only.

You make a good point. We now have a MAC user on our testing staff which has been very helpful. We are only marking items PC Only if its an exe file. However, many older files may be marked incorrectly. If you come across any of those, please notify store@renderosity.com and we'll make the correction. yvette

Thanks vette. What date did you start implementing the PC only = exe? I have things on my wishlist this might affect.

vette ( ) posted Tue, 26 February 2002 at 11:44 AM

Oh, not really sure there was a specific date. Maybe a few months ago. If you have questions, just email store@renderosity.com and we'll look at it for you. yvette

It seems you must be mistaken about the PC ONLY = exe only. Nothing has changed at all. I don't know where you heard this. Anyway there is a thread ongoing in the Mac forum right now about this topic - please take a look at the above link - especially Martin C's comments.

You know there are really ONLY 2 things which make files unuseable on Macs!!

  1. exe installers, and
  2. file names longer than 31 characters, especially for MAT files where it just truncates the name and the files will not load.

What I am saying is that we (testers) are currently only flagging items PC Only that contain exe files. If you have any questions if the file is an exe, just email store@renderosity.com and we'll be glad to check it for you. yvette

I'm a mac user.
I think it's possible to convert file names longer than 31 characters ( MAT files for example). I already did that for some vairesh products.
the .exe files is the real issue for Mac users.

That would be OK for some small items but what about the big paks I buy where there are over 40+ MATs. To tell you the truth I've given up on this altogether. I'd rather buy at DAZ and RuntimeDNA where they have actual Mac installers and I don't have to worry about things not working.
