Full Moon Wednesday to Be Brightest of Year Tue Feb 26, 5:26 PM ET WASHINGTON (Reuters) - If the dog howls more than usual Wednesday night and if lovers feel the urge to spoon, don't be surprised, NASA said -- it's the brightest full moon of the year. When the Moon is full on Wednesday night it will be just about as close to Earth as it gets in its elliptical orbit, the U.S. space agency said. As a result, it will appear 9 percent wider than normal and shine 20 percent more brightly. At the far end of its ellipse, called apogee, the moon is 252,700 miles from Earth. At the closest, the perigee, it is only 221,500 miles away. In addition, the Earth at this time of year is closer to the sun on its own elliptical orbit, and therefore the moon is as well, so it has more of the sun's light to reflect, adding to its brightness.

Would this be the same for Europe ? I'll try to shoot at the end of the afternoon, cause the moon's been in the sky already after 4pm this week! Thanks for the info =)

It's overcast!!! Arghhh!!! I've been out, - and they promised below freezing tonight, - and that should mean a bright, clear moon. :( But nope! Britt

Clear and cold in Chicago. I tried a couple shots using a 500mm telephoto, with exposure based on one that was posted in the Gallery last month. If you never see it posted here, don't ask; I'll be embarassed if it doesn't turn out...

I've sucessfully taken a shot of the moon yesterday night. here a preview.. it's not that much of a photo... but i think i could merge various parts of other shots taken that night... maybe the result could be interesting... =)

Thanks ARTAX-I tried to see the halo BUT there was not enough fog. I figured it was too bright to get a good image. Bsteph
