Well I know why October is the 10th month of the year :) Because in the Roman calander there were only 10 months total, and October was the 8th. However I have no idea what that is.

visualkinetics ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 1:02 PM

Craters or a section of the moon.

Kiera ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 1:03 PM

Yeah, a couple more months were added and then Julius Caesar re-did the whole shebang. ;) next guess! The face on Mars! (I know, I promised I would shut up, but I want UVMapper Pro!) =D

brittmccary ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 1:06 PM

A river to end up in the lakeprop??!! :o)

brittmccary ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 1:08 PM

VirtualSite beat me to it, but it does look like a eye, a egyptian style eye to be more precise.

JeffH ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 1:59 PM

An "eye" of March? LOL.

gstorme ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 1:59 PM

OMG! I have had SUCH a streak of luck lately! I won some great things from Ron's contest, and now UVMApper pro! I won't know what to do with myself with all these great new things to play with. Thanks for the contest geep. You are enigmatic, but quite entertaining. =D I will send you some mail shortly. =)

Kiera ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 2:43 PM

(P.S. So much for the "face" theory. Quite a different perspective from that view. Looks like the grand canyon with a flat top haircut! ;)

geep ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 2:52 PM

BTW - This ...

*Hint: ................ (sort of) ;=]

If the prefix "oct" means EIGHT (octagon, octagenarian, etc.), then

... why is OCTober the TENTH month of the year?*

... was a hint because October was the EIGHTH month of the year a long, long time ago!

There have always been 12 months in a year (just like the signs of the zodiac) but the year started with MARch which was named for Mars, originally the 1st month of the calander year. That made October the 8th month.

JULy was the 5th.
AUGUST was the 6th.
SEPTember was the 7th.
OCTober was the 8th. (OCTagon)
NOVember was the 9th.
DECember was the 10th (i.e., DECimal).
JANuary was the 11th.
FEBruary was the 12th.

The NEW YEAR started with MARch!

Julius and Augustus names' mean five and six, respectively.

cheers,
dr geep
;=]

P.S. Want to play again?

Kiera ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 6:59 PM

Well I have had a few hours to play, and I must say that UVMapperPro is possibly the most amazing texturing product I have ever used. 3D Preview and autoupdate is just.. wow. Having Poser AND Photoshop open with constant re-rendering to check textures is rough on the old computer. UVMapperPro's executable is freaking TINY and barely takes any resources at all compared to Poser. If you have 50 dollars, get it. Now. =)

PabloS ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 8:00 PM

kieraw, not only are you putting salt on the wound...you have to add tobasco sauce too!?!

Kiera ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 8:06 PM

doh! Lemme try again. This is horrible! No one would want it! No, that doesn't quite work. =D
