Subject: Detail of ethic when banishing members from Renderosity.

liftan ( ) posted Sat, 02 March 2002 at 10:29 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 11:42 PM

_Hello, _I said I was okay with Renderosity team and with the staff in charge of banishing some members, but, not at all that I ever want a forum or decisional tribune to be created, but I really believe that the causes of the ban should be openly revealed & precised to all the other members,_a nasty behavior is not always a shame to admit, to show to others, or to be seen, just I think it's fair for all to "know why" this or that guy has been banned, with a simple and public explaination, even a generality, if it was very ugly thing that (these) person(s) made. _It wouldn't mean in all cases that it could be always a recurse for them or for them to appeal the decision, but some cases, and a minority of these guys, I am sure, would deserve kind of a "second chance", just by answering something to the members they used to hang around with on this Site, or at least have a last word of explaination, in limited cases, and only when and if Renderosity Team is judging it opportun. Renderosity Company would stay Decisioners to let this "Answering Right" available on Renderosity. _We have this broadcast on ur french TV when someone thinks he was unfairly banned, fired, or thinks he was the victim of an injustice: Not that a public debate is necessary here, as in this broadcast, but just for two reasons: _1) Most of the time, we are addressed emails from Renderosity (I mean we don't ask for this) just telling that one or this one has just been banned, dry, and most of the time, I'm sure it is for a good reason. But the reason "why" he or she was could be typed very simply in one line of text or less, very concisely. That would help people not to do the same "mistakes", that wouldn't put more blame on the person, because, after all, he or she WAS responsible of his or her banishment. Well, I mean people will get more resonsible, if they know exactly what to do and what they did instead _Only when it is relevant, of course. _2) It doesn't mean "laxism" to let a person his unique "Right to Anwer" & try to explain in ONE and ONLY ONE message, why he did that, and what he thinks, this in the only case of what he has to tell is RELEVANT. _It will help everybody to avoid to be confused, and feel -SOME MEMBERS COULD FEEL THAT WAY, even if I don't _that there's no Supreme Censorship seen like the "Great Inquisition"... I'm sure banned members must feel this way even if I don't support them, and there I affirm that I know NONE of them. _So, not a public Tribune and trial, just a word of percise explaination. _Example: ""Member Smchilblick has been banned. Cause: Has posted picture showing adult "unclear or indecent "activity" with a child."" _Other example: Member Shmilbad banned because he had published a serious public and far too much offensive (or indecent) speech or artwork to Mr.(s)... or toward this or that Company or Public Person. _I hope members of Renderosity will be able to see this kind of things happen. It doesn't mean it HAS to be the opportunity for any infinite non-ending debate neither public Tribune, or Tribunal. No, just a few words about the real cause, you don't have to give "private details"...or..YES ! You just can say: Banned because of "private details we are not able oralloed to tell more. Byebye. Thanks for your attention. Greetings. Jean-Pierre Mayet. (nickname: liftan)

If you'll look in the Forum News forum, this is usually done for all bannings. I always did it for any banning I did while an admin here.

Answering rcook: It seems pecfectly okay then. Thanks for answering: I didn't know that you did it. Sorry, I had never thought you did, and so, I never checked it. (it's relatively not my first goal, just thought of it once or twice after receiving these dozen "ban-decisions" emails, that's all..!). Thanks to you. Alfie (liftan)

It's also part of the Terms of Service (see the sidebar link) that all bannings will be announced in such a manner.

There are only a few things that would get a member banned outright. Check the Terms of Service document for the "zero tolerance" section. Aside from those few items, members aren't banned unless they keep adding up infractions...so they do have plenty of opportunity for a second chance, even a third or fourth. :)

Who is the owner of this site? = )

rcook ( ) posted Tue, 05 March 2002 at 8:58 AM

Click the "easeforum/Bondware" button at the very bottom of the page. Then look at the "About Us" and "Contacts" link on that site.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Tue, 05 March 2002 at 10:01 AM

...No cigar! What username does the owner go by? = )

rcook ( ) posted Tue, 05 March 2002 at 10:23 AM

Renderosity is owned by Bondware Inc. The majority owners of Bondware Inc. are "tim" and "tammymc".

rcook ( ) posted Tue, 05 March 2002 at 7:22 PM

Look at the top of this page. He's the moderator of this forum. Searching for "tim" in the Members area turns up 656 members. Easier to just click on his name at the top of this page. :)

It seems that a new policy is now in effect, They will no longer be announcing bans or the reasons behind them. I guess that information is on a need to know basis and we dont need to know?

rcook ( ) posted Sat, 23 March 2002 at 2:48 PM

Need to know what? ;)

Lisas_Botanicals ( ) posted Sat, 23 March 2002 at 6:39 PM

Purely speculation but I can think of two reasons perhaps that there are no more public announcments of banning.

  1. perhaps there is the danger of legal liability regarding libel/slander to publicly state why a member was banned
    OR
  2. perhaps the admin do not want to see or deal with public reaction/opinion to a member being banned

Sure would like to know though, instead of speculating ...

From now on bannings will be announced in the OT forum.
