What is a Geep? I need to know I just can't sleep It plagues me so When it's at home, or otherwise Is it a Peeg that's in disguise? A kind of Gnome? Oh please advise Is it safe when it's asleep Does it roar, or bark or bleep? What exactly is a Geep? Inspired by Valandar's challenge last month. (Missed it as usual!) regards peejay

  • grins * Reminds me of a poem I read a couple of decades ago ....
           THE FLEFFEL

The fleffel runs on ceilings.
The fleffel sticks to walls.
Its skin is apple-peelings.
Its eyes are tennis balls.

The fleffel barks like bongo drums.
It nests in chandeliers.
Its favorite foods are pork and plums
And science-fictioneers.

That looks pretty much like a Geep to me. Not sure if the word should be capitalized though.

Maybe "GEEP" means ........ A: Government Energy-Efficient Product B: Gender Equity and Equality Project C: Georgia Environmental Enforcement Project D: Gender Equity Empowerment and Poverty E: Or this .... What is GEEP? GEEP is a project that provides possibilities to governmental and non-governmental institutions in BiH to implement institutionalization of gender equity and equality through gender mainstreaming. (found here - http://www.geep.com.ba/ENG/WHATISGENDER.htm) or this .... As Dr Batten says, It (the geep) is not a hybrid, but a chimera, formed by mixing the (fertilized) embryo cells of two different species. 1984 Birth of a baby from an embryo which had been stored frozen. An example of a young sheep-goat chimaera. (Image courtesy of Dr Gary B. Anderson.) Sheep-goat chimaera created, dubbed a 'geep'. Note patches of sheep's wool and goat's hair. (Original paper: Fehilly, C. B., S. M. Willadsen, and E. M. Tucker. 1984. Interspecific chimaerism between sheep and goat. Nature (Lond.) 307:634.) To hear what a GEEP sounds like go here Http://www.geep.net/sounds/geep.wav Makes one wonder what a GEEP really is and looks like.... just a thought... TMG

Isn't a Geep a military car ? It's a very popular generaly purpose vehicule, appreciated througout the planet by all users. The Geep was the symbol of liberty, America delivering Europe from Nazi slaverage. What is not clear is how - and why - the Geep changed to what it is now ;))

Isn't a Geep a military car ?<< Actually the car (Jeep) was named after the Popeye character, at least in part. The government described it as a "General Purpose Vehicle" or GP Vehicle. Popeye was common currency at that time, so abbreviating GP to Geep or Jeep happened naturally.

...why, it's one of these, of course. It also moderates terrain with the greatest of ease :)

nfredman ( ) posted Thu, 07 March 2002 at 1:48 PM

Wasn't Popeye's Geep a kind of magical little critter, who could do all sorts of impossible things? That's another reason they called the vehicle a "jeep," because they went everywhere--so my Dad, a WWII vet saith. Ho, Penguinisto, looks like that jeep is yours! Or should be, with the license plate. :^) i vote for our moderator being a magical critter. :^) But the chimeric kid is very cute.

Hey Penguinisto don't you ever go offroad?

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 07 March 2002 at 2:54 PM

Groin - I go every chance I get (this weekend, for starters. I'll be driving about in the Virgin River Gorge, at the Arizona-Nevada border just off I-15.) I also live within 3 hours' driving distance from Moab, Utah (which means that I go out all the other times of the year, and avoid Easter like it were a plague :) And yeah, it is mine (who else would put up with that huge rust spot growing by the door?) One of these days I'd love to make a 3d poseable model of the thing, but I know that Daimler-Chrysler would come down on me like a ton of bricks over their copyright rules (they're extremely tight-fisted about their trademarks... I'd already looked into it awhile back.) /P

Penguinisto, an offroading UNIX geek? isn't all that sunshine against the rules? :) Lyrra
