Subject: Easiest way to make store-ready MAT files?

Anybody have suggestions? Lyrra

These two python scripts are the easiest ways to go. I have used them both. They are in free stuff or you can get them from these sites. http://poserutils.tripod.com/poserutils.html http://www.cg-fantasy.com/downloads.php?dltype=poser Just set up your model and run the script, next find and rename the resulting MAT file. Keep loading your textures and you are done in a few minutes. Is this what you meant?

Uh - for non poser pro pack users :) sorry shoulda specified

sturkwurk ( ) posted Thu, 07 March 2002 at 8:03 PM

non Poser Pro... hmmmm Probably the easiest way then is to start with one mat pose from scratch... and then copy it as many times as you need and to a "replace" in each one to get the textures you need? I try to use a naming standard on my stuff... simple names for the textures like red.jpg and for the bump redbmp.jpg (or redbmp.bum) then I have some cool options when I "replace"... I can go for all of them like change "red" to "blue" or change the textures "red.jpg" to "green.jpg" and the bumps "redbmp.jpg" to "pinkbmp.jpg" or whatever. Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

Do you have CR2Edit? It'll make 'em for you, as long as it's not something like one of Anton's changing fantasy suits with changing objects. Actually, it may make them, but I got scared by the warning that said there was a non-standard object call or something like that.

I'm making 2 mats for Mike textures. I tried MATmaker but it won't option any Mike cr2 for me - I'm gonna email the programmer tonight. CR2edit you say? Is that here? If I get the hang of MATmaking I'll run up a set for my Shades of Mike textures. Lyrra

How sophisticated are the mats you are putting together? Lots of added color, or just the same settings with different texture references? I have a very crude program that I was working on that makes these mat poses very easy. Unfortunately, I decided to start a Python version, and stopped working on the original (never actually started on the python version...) if you have a PC, and are interested, send me your email address via 'rosity IM and I'll see if I can't work the details out for getting you access to it. eric

Here are three MAT tutorals that can be linked to thru the Renderosity tutorial Poser section

http://www.renderosity.com/~syyd/pntuts/mat.htm

http://www.fallencity.net/lore/poser-mat-creation.php

And the one that seems to be the easiest to do (at least for my mentality L) - http://dragonayerie.topcities.com/creating_matt_poses.htm

All these by very talented & generous Renderosity folk - hope they're what you were looking for. :)

Lyyra - If you have a PC, and can spend the $20 for it, I strongly suggest getting MatPose Applier, in the market place. I bought this, and have really made use of it... Take a look at the link. (That is assuming you aren't wanting to "learn the process" cuz it will do it all for you...) I hope this helps... - Lee

The crudest and cheapest way to make a MAT pose file is take a COPY of a CR2 character, rename it a PZ2 file and edit all the text out except a few lines at the top and bottom and that which refers to the Materials. This can be done in Wordpad, but be warned Michael 2 is a massive 30Mb file and will really test your machine if you load it as text. Michael One works okay on my P3 666 with 128 meg.

Why don't you try Mat Pose Edit - it's in the freestuff. You load the ready textured Cr2 and save as Pz2 and you're done. And you can easily change and modify other Matposes with this tool. Friederike

Without having tried all the alternatives, I cannot say that CR2Edit is the easiest way, but usually takes about 2 seconds, depending on options, which are many. Types supported: (depends on version) MAT/MAP, subdivision, joint, scaling. Batch function, for doing folders-full at at a time. The MAT tools are just a very few of the dozens included in CR2Edit, automating everything from ERC to morph transfers. Ver6 is in beta, but the upgrade path will be cheaper. Well I looked into the one that's in free stuf - MAT pose edit? I think? But I can't get it to open any Mike based cr2. Which makes it less than useful. I don't have the money to buy a utility program right now - so I'm down to using freeware or doing it by hand. Well if I have to I'll supply 2 cr2's and be done with it :) I don't have time to be twiddling around with bloody MAT files, it's not like switching the textures is that bloody hard. Besides I'm sure y'all would rather I got back to the 24 sets of Adventures textures and my other yet-to-be-announced store project. Lyrra

Puntomaus ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 3:17 AM

That's strange - I can open every cr2 - Michael, Vicky, P4's or animals and I made all my Matposes with this tool. Did you make sure you selected Character files (.cr2) under filetype - it opens with .Pz2 by default.

Yes I selected cr2 - I had trouble getting tis started and had to DL all sorts of vbs stuff. It might just be that it doesn't like my puter. I'm emailing the programmer tonight to see if there's an easy fix Lyrra

Puntomaus ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 5:24 AM

I had to install these .dll's first too but maybe you are right and it's something your PC does not like (or the OS). I think asking the programmer about that would be the best solution. Hope he can help you because it's a usefull tool and free at last.
