You may be interested to know that he's moved a lot of it over to the Marketplace - the "La Sedizione(sp?)" package and the "Autumn Leaves" blouse are in there now... dunno how that'll affect any policies, but I suspect that you prolly don't want to go passing copies of the Free Stuff versions along tou friends and acquaintences from here on out... /P

I believe he stated on his site that they would be free only for a limited time. There probably is a license agreement that states that they couldn't be shared. I for one was expecting this, so I figure he had made it pretty clear from the start (considering that my mind lately is in a dense fog).

I have the free version and was seriously considering buying the versions in the marketplace to be able to use them in my commerical renders until I read his addendum to the licence. You have to provide credit when used in commercial renders? I don't see how I could do that for most of my commercial stuff since the only credit I usally get is my sig and copyright on the image (I do book covers.) What is the point of buying them with that limitation on them? I buy stuff so that I WON'T have to worry about 'giving' credit or other limitations when I use them in a commercial render.

His licence for the freestuff files forbids distribution also.

Last time a vendor had an additional licence beside the MP licence we had some (small) riots. Maybe someone who wants to buy wusamah's products should IM him and ask if he can remove this appendix. ;P

Kiera ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2002 at 2:04 PM

A requirement to credit in commercial renders? I don't do commercial renders, but I wouldn't buy a product with an addendum like that.

MadYuri ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2002 at 2:08 PM

PS: The people from the MP should watch out for stuff like this. If I buy something and realize later on that I cannot use it because of some additional licence I won't buy here anymore. I don't want to look everytime if there are some pitfalls. If there is not one and only one single licence for all products in the MP, Renderosity loses much of its advertising appeal for me.

Daio ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2002 at 2:17 PM

Well, it certainly cost him at least 1 sale (I would have bought all three of his products) but I am not buying any commercial Poser product with that sort of additional restriction.

Neither would I. The Marketplace should have only one license for all items.
The free section could use a better system as well. One of the reasons I really like 3DArena's free section is you can read up front before downloading if an item is for personal use only or if they allow commercial use.

It needs to be out in front. I looked at the Asia stuffage and elected not to buy it, maybe I'm blind but there was no readme like the others have. That is not acceptable. I won't buy her stuff just because it's looks like she's hiding something. Thanks for the heads up on uzalite, I won't be buying from them either. Marque

I thought this was covered when SteffyZ tried to do the same thing... I'd check with the store staff and see if this is actually valid... I thought that the staff before said that vendors couldn't/shouldn't add this type of addendum to their products.

Utterly ridiculous. If I do a commercial render, the last thing the client wants is a credit from another artist they don't even know. Do these people ever DO anything commercially?

Nance ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2002 at 8:39 PM

Wouldn't such a requirement be meaningless unless it specified exactly how the credit must be given? (go shout it from a rooftop?)

ElectricAardvark ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2002 at 10:08 PM

Directly from the R'osity agreement: Buyer may use the materials in any personal projects or commercial projects, as long as the Artist 's work is protected from extraction and none of the items above have been violated. Uzilites "credit" is not a requirement.

Do these people ever DO anything commercially? While I totally agree about the licensing, please don't lump all vendors in the same boat. "These people" are all different, with different ideas of how things are done. I'm a vendor here and have never once received a complaint about my licensing. And yes, I do commercial work.

Uzilite ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2002 at 11:51 PM

Hello This Wusamah and I've considered the discussed issue here and will be modifying my license in regards to the credit when producing commercial renders. However, I will still prohibit any free distribution of the actuall files (geometry, cr2 and all) as it is also stated in Renderosity license. I believe the latter goes even to more detail in regards to distribution limitations. Thank you.

Ok, no problem then. :)
