Hello i was wondering if anyone has information on any colleges across the US that offer computer animation or graphic design as a major. I already know of DigiPen and have already recived ther information packet. I am a Junior in High School and would really like to apply to more than one college to weigh my options. Any information give would be highly appreciated. I would also really appreciate any info from anyone that has computer animation as his or her major, THX.

Well Digipen would require you trekking to the great north of Canada (Specifically Vancouver). I didn't know it was computer animation specifically, just general video games, but wha ev. You might want to look at programs that offer a wider array of courses. I don't know of many universities and whatnot that have specific majors in Computer Animation. Personally, I'm going to Concordia University next semester in montreal, quebec, for a Specialization Major in Digital Imaging/Sound. There are several schools in montreal that would offer the computer animation courses you want, but they aren't colleges or universities, but just that, specialized schools. The unfortunate thing about these is that while they do train you very well, the piece of paper you get in the end isn't a bachelor or anything. Something like that useless "ICS At home University training," where you get an internationally unrecognized degree. I suggest you give a little thought into going into a Design Art program maybe. There are 2 kick ass universities in Canada, one being NSCAD (in Halifax Nova Scotia), and the other being Emily Carr (Vancouver BC), both are the king shyte design schools, and they're universities. If you REALLY want computer animation though, check out The Sheridan College in Ontario Canada. These guys are the ABSOLUTE KINGS when it comes to ANYTHING concerning animation of ANY field whatsoever. Costs a pretty penny though. ry

Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY (my alma mater) is a top notch Art and Design school. They used to be on the cutting edge of computer animation, I'm not sure were they are with it now though. One advantage of Pratt is that it is in NYC where you can find work right out of school, and/or find a great internship at one of the networks.

USC in Los Angeles and CalArts in Valencia, Ca. both offer computer animation programs like this and are well respected. Ringling College in Florida also receives a lot of attention.

Try this site out: http://schools.awn.com/ They have a list of over 400 schools around the world that teach computer animation. I've mentioned to renderosity to have a main listing for eductaion on their main page, but they don't seem to think that people are interested in getting real educations with animation, so... Think they have an area under 'Directory' that might list education. Good luck!

The Academy of Art College is either in CA or NH.

New York University (NYU) also has good courses in Computer Animation and Visual effects both a credit and certificate program They have intensive 4 week programs for about $4,000.00 When I can get both time and money together I was going to take their courses

You might as well PAY attention, because you can't afford FREE speech
