Subject: What Are These Blue-Colored Files in MS Explorer?

moushie ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 11:50 AM ยท edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 7:02 AM

Quite suddenly, I find some of my files listed in the MS Explorer window showing up in blue. They are both Poser and non-poser files of all types, including PSD, JPEG, CR2, PZ2, RSR, and Text Documents. Some of the files have been downloaded, others created. Sometimes two almost identical files will be listed one in blue and the other in normal black. There seems to be no pattern, and I have only noticed it in the past few weeks. Never seen anything like it in 12 years of professional and personal computer usage. Im operating Windows XP. Any idea what the heck this is?

Post a pic of what you are talking about, it is hard to go by just the description. I might have seen what you are talking about. JDexter

It's probably the hard disk cleanup function of XP. One of the options is to compress unused files. Those compressed files are blue in the explorer. But they should work ok with every other program (aside from hex editors) because XP does uncompress them on the fly when they are used.

MadYuri is right. If you are in any window, goto the tools menu, click Folder Options. Under the View tab there should be a check which says something like "View compressed files as a different color". This is why some files are blue :)

Wow -- you're right! They are indeed compressed files and the box is so checked. Everything works just fine. Many thanks for this solution.
