Hey Punky, after seeing your fine costal vacation shots, I thought I'd give you a look at our coastline in Northern Florida. It sums up with sea oats (plant that grows only in the shoreline areas), sandunes, and intercoastal waterways. The land does not give way to the ocean without a battle. There are all kinds of bays, bayous, sounds and areas of half water and half land. The actual "surf" is often on long barrier Islands off the mainland. In this picture, the strip of land farthest away is one such Island, and that is where the main beach is.

This is on the barrier Island from the first picture. The Sea Oats shown here prevent beach erosion. Even though they are illegal to cut, tourists from up north and Canada (!) seem dedicated to taking them all back!

A shot of a sand dune covered with Sea Oats. I was standing in the surf at the time. I think I used a 80mm lens; it's not as close as it appears. The beaches area is fairly wide.

Another shot next to the shore. Looks like the tourists got all the Sea Oats here.

Sea Oats in the sunset. The shot everybody takes home to the snow!

geez, you went for a vacation on a beach filled with snow???

Nice images, I like 5, good shot of the lighthouse too. That is white sand, not snow????

Thanks Marshall. Your beaches and coastline really are different, aren't they? I love the "sea-oats" We don't have them along the part of the coastline I was on, but I think I have seen similar plants elsewhere when I was younger, but they went by a different name (which I can't remember) I really love your shot of the dune taken with the 80mm lens, the cloud formation above is wonderful. The sunset is beautiful, did you use a filter on your lens for that one? I'd really like to climb inside that lighthouse too! (I think I'm a latent lighthouse-keeper) These are great and educational to an Aussie boy like me. Thanks for sharing! Cameron :-)>

Bevchiron - Sand no snow. Not exactly sure what Slynky was referring to. Punk - No filter on the last one. On those hazy summer days, the sky provides it's own filter!
