Subject: Collaboration

Not sure if this question has been posed before , but I was wondering about getting a section set up for collaborations. A forum sounds like the right type of section. When I say collaboration, I don't just mean sharing models or free stuff, this would be some place where artists using different programs could find out if their scene could be produced another way, where you could share scene files or images. The images would be the property of both parties, unless by agreement. I have done some of these with sdnoble, who happens to live near me, so we actually sit at the same computer, but I have one lined up to do by sharing the scene, models from one, background from another...What do you think of the idea?? Is admin interested???

This sounds very interesting Kate, perhaps a database of people interested in collaborative projects could be set up - so when the need arises, we know who to ask... :)

That sounds like a good start...thanks Pete.

Thanks for IMing me about this,Kate. I have collaberated with several artists here in Renderosity. It has been on a person to person request though.Your idea is very interesting... I will give it some thought and get back to you with mor cohesive input( i just woke up from a nap, lol) chris

Thank you for posting your question, Kate. I've been really interested in collaborating on a 3D project, especially creating and uploading scenes or accessories from Bryce, and then converting them into OBJ so that another artist could import the files and finish the project on Poser or other 3D programs. Perhaps, just perhaps...:-)

Sounds kind of cool, but if you get something going, please remember that many models, textures, etc. have a user license that doesn't permit a person to convert, make copies, pass along to other people. So be sure you're utilizing only items that do permit redistribution/modification. :)

Great idea. Varian has a good point too, user licenses would have to be watched. It would be a great way to bring Renderosity member's together and get more familiar with each other, not too mention breaking limitations a user might have to a particular software product with what they can do with their work.

We had such a forum at one time in the past, and it was never used. It was eventually converted into the current Jobs/Resumes forum. Would a forum best support this idea, or more of a contact list, with offered skills? Russell

Thanks for the comments...I like the idea of a contact list, it would atleast give users an idea of who is willing to help. And I thought the jobs/resumes forum may have evolved from something like this....As far as licenses go for certain models etc, yeah, I think everyone agrees that its no good trying to scam other's work. Well I'm happy to collaborate on work if I can help, and time permits!

Including an "artist" field in the image upload that accepts multiple values would present an image with multiple artist names and allow the same post to be displayed in more than one artist's gallery. That way the results of a collaboration can be presented as such among the main gallery postings. Can the DB and display app be modified that way ? (is it worth it ?)

Having a place like in the free MarketPlace could work; to have an environment that you can upload a project(for eg: a scene) for a particular artist to download and complete it, or pass it on to another artist. snoble:what do you mean by DB and display app to be modified?
