A while back somebody was after speech bubbles for the comic they were making. Well, after a few false starts I'm making reasonable progress. I'm fairly happy with the "thinks" bubble but the "talks" bubble needs a bit more work to get rid of extraneous artefacts. I suspect I'll end up having to manually edit every vertex and face of the obj file in a text editor - what fun. Should I put them on Free Stuff now, or would you rather wait a while until They're perfected. By the way, I haven't even thought about textures yet. Just to make things clear, these are 3d objects and are part of the Poser rendering, not added afterwards. Cheers, Maz

I kind of like the "depth" the Talks bubble has. even with the artifacts. This after all a 3D world! As soon as you get them mapped, post em!

The "thinks" bubble has depth too, it's just that it's viewed straight on. Not being much of a comic reader, are there any other styles of speech thingie I should do. Should the "thinks" bubble come with varying numbers of feed-in bubbles? Should there be a variety of "talks" bubbles with different length pointy bits? Or what?

Yeah, maby make them figures so you could bend the tails and scale them and such.

I'll see what I can do.

Yeah, a 3D comic needs 3D speech bubbles. You is trying to get rid of something that is a positive.... Scarab<-still talking in 2D

Come on guys, with Mimic and others, there won't be a need for bubbles as far as the 3D bit goes. Still for comics and other static images, the bubble thing is a good thing. Hey Maz, Just make the boxes WITHOUT chamfering and you'll end up with nicely rounded edges, perfect for the bubble talk box!

Maz Those are real cool - 3D speech bubbles for a 3D world. You've got two of the four main types of "bubbles" for comics. The other two are a rounded version of the "speech bubble" and a spikey "yell bubble". If you want examples, check out Blambot Free Comic Fonts where they've got free examples. Paul

Hi Art, I've tried them without chamfering and, for want of a better term, they look crap. It's also difficult to make the shape with a tail in Max because of the triangular faces it insists upon. Difficult to explain, but try it and you'll see the problem. I spent my lunch hour today creating an obj file for a "talks" bubble in a text editor (as I threatened) and it worked! I now need to reinforce the outline and I think I'm well on the way to super whizzo speech thingies. Scarab, I'm not trying to get rid of the 3d effect. There is an artifact that looks OK in this view, but from different angles completely screws things up. LoboUK, I'm on my way to Blambot now. Thanks guys.
