With the advent of Vicky2 with posettes body for all of the old Clothing and micheal 2 and all of his versatility
and now the stephanie model as a low cost addtion
to the pack and all of the major clothing modelors building for vicky and mike I think posette is going join her estranged mate "Dork "in the ashbin of history

Bye posette :-(

I doubt that... really. The vast majority of folks who have Poser don't have all these neat little DAZ models - most who do have more than Poser default have Vicky1 and that's prolly it. R'osity, even with the Poser portion of its 70,000+ members, is still but a fraction of the total number of folks who have and use Poser. I wouldn't let the doings here represent the whole Poser group of people. Another reason I can say this is because I see the vast number of downloads per day of geralday's Free Stuff, and he does almost all Posette/Dork stuff. /P

scifiguy ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 2:34 PM

Total nonsense. I like Posette. Her face is pretty without needing a bunch of morphs, she's easy to pose, and has a great wardrobe. Posette and Dork are also very useful as background figures...enough detail to be convincing but not much that it puts a huge demand on the 'puter.

anek ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 2:41 PM

I agree with sifiguy, mike, vicky and friends are all hi- polygon. Ive been experimenting with using poser figures in shockwave 3d, it would never handle their meshes (well except on top class machines, but hey I want the ordinary folk to be able to look at my stuff. The new figures are fantastic for renders and even video clips but real time rendering needs to low count meshes. By the way, any of you who were puzzling over my previous question about exporting a poser scene from Max to W3D, Ive just found out today that Curious Labs W3D exporter for Poser Propak is on their site. Dont know how long its been available, but I expect that will do the job and would have saved me a lot of puzzling. Ill have a go with it when I get chance and let you all know what happens. Also I think Dork and Posette can be great for artwork too, with the right textures and lighting. Sorry for any typos (working too hard for too long)

I don't think she's dead either. In fact, I recently saw her in my local newspaper in an article about pain or something. She had the ponytail hair and the halter top on, no color changes or anything. There was no mistaking her. Oh well. Does anyone else think that's odd? Its probably just me.

stu-art ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 3:04 PM

thats a shame because all my stuff will be made for her. not vicky i agree with the above comments not everyone has vicky some of us dont really want her or mike, you could even argue vickys been replaced at the moment by steph. just my two cents. cheers stu

orangeparty ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 3:14 PM

Long live Posette. I don't think she's going anywhere. Reason #1 - She's free. I sometimes wonder if the folks who use Vicki have won the lottery at some point in time. I pretty much nixed the idea of getting Vicki when i figured out it would cost me a small fortune to keep her clothed and happy. Sure it hurts at times (anyone elsesee RDNA's Gothic armor for V? It looks really good) but I don't want to carry the starving artist cliche too far : ) #2 - Just started using poser in December. It's nice to have something fairly simple to start with. When i get better, sure i might want to graduate to the 699 parameter dial breasts, but for now, larger and smaller is ok by me. #3 - just a small imho point. Never cared for V's face. Look's like she's having trouble with a math problem, or maybe she just bumped her head on a cupboard? ok - that's my 2 Cents. : )

Who says I'm dead?! (Great new P4F texture from Rena at Poswerworld)

Eowyn ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 3:57 PM

She'd be a bit less ugly if she didn't have such horrible eyes and eyelashes... (not saying your image is ugly but that Posette is)

jval ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 3:58 PM

Reports of Posette's passing are indeed premature. Just yesterday she was reported seen at a burger stand in Nebraska sharing a milk shake with Elvis. - Jack

i agree all poser people and characters still have their utility !

geralday ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:32 PM

If you're interested in animation.. not single frame posing.. Posette and her LO variants are very much alive and well. I purchased Vicky 6 months ago and have only rarely used her... she's a real high cost girlfriend and 25fps take forever to render. So until the 20ghz processor becomes common.. or we can live to be 200, Posette will rule.. OK!

hmatienzo ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:34 PM

As long as there's places like Poserworld and John-on-the-run and others like it, Posette will live forever! Besides, she is perfect for the not-so-high computer systems...

Goldfire ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:41 PM

Posette still has a lot of life in her, for all the reasons cited here. Vicky and Micheal are fun, but not having won the lottery (good comment, orangeparty) I have to get stuff for Vicky& Micheal peice by peice, as I can afford it. Where there is TONS of freestuff for Posette and some for the Dork. Traveler's morphs go a long way to making both of them much better, and a good hair package will make them even better - and Koz has such nice free hair for Posette in a variety of styles. Long live posette!

PheonixRising ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 4:57 PM

She was cute and fun, but we have moved beyond Posette. Her mesh and cr2 design is just too far out of date. I think she will always be a fun historical figure being the first truly advanced "poser" female, but that is all. I deleted her long, long ago. It's like going back to the Poser2 figures. You could but why would you want to. I am sure she will always have a fan base just link people who watch old movies and collect vinyl records. :) "gone but not forgotten"

Nice picture Jackson
Posette is a very pretty girl i admit!!
I guess im speaking from the jaded perspective of someone who NEVER does any final renders in poser4
but instead renders animations in the radiosity ray tracer of cinema4DXL
possettes mesh simply does not have enough vertices to withstand the scrutiny of a real raytracer in a globally
and volumetrically lit environment that why shes dead to me and the V2 With the posette body has settled the
available clothing issue.

JimX ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 5:20 PM

I think there is a lot of life left in Posette. Certainly, the higher number of vertices in Vicky's mesh makes close-ups more life-like. But when the picture is not that close up, there is a lot to like about Posette-- for example, she has more shapely calves than Vicky (IMHO). Then there is the tons of clothing. And the faster renders (and more people in a scene). And apparently easier to pose. I'm just a hobbyist. So for me, the advantages of Posette far outweight her limits. Although I do buy items from the MarketPlace (and BBay and DAZ) from time to time, I haven't even come close to considering plunking down the $ for Vicky and a starter wardrobe for her. There may be a pretty large market out here like me. - JimX

gryffnn ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 6:20 PM

Shhh, don't tell anyone, but I've got a new (affordable) Posette almost ready - the included DialMagic poses for lots of new morphs are just one thing she'll have that no other figure does - the illustrated user guide is 30 pages long. Lots of life and fun yet in our girl! Keep your eye on the Product Showcase forum - Elisa/gryffnn

Nukeboy ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 7:00 PM

Glad to hear that Gryffnn is up to something. I do a lot of gasp Bryce work and unless I'm really close to the character, posette pleases me. Especially using the "vickiebuster-again" texture...

I dunno Eowyn, with Rena's texture, I think Posette's prettier than Vicky. But my wife tells me I have lousy taste in women, so I might be wrong. Thanks, wolf.

arcady ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 7:31 PM

I tossed Possette the moment I got Vicky back when she first came out. Possette just looks funny from most angles. You can spot a possette render by the mishapen breasts that look like they've been flattened on the sides. And the hips are just strange. I don't like Vicky's default facial look one bit; but she's VERY easy to reshape and make faces for. And her body holds together under most of the poses I put it through.

Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

I suppose Dorkette has her uses, for background "extras," but I've long thought that she looks too plastic and too much like a mannequin. She's not very realistic. Oh, I know! She would make a great mannequin in a department store scene. I guess with the right texture, both she and the P4Man can look pretty good. I was able to make P4Man look pretty human with the right texture, back before Michael was born. But I'm an avid Mike/Vicki/Stephanie user now and I never touch the default figures anymore. Melanie

ockham ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 9:46 PM

Remember that plenty of Poser users are not even slightly interested in photorealistic renders. I use Posette as a "lab assistant" in illustrating scientific experiments and principles, and my renders end up as (gasp! horrible! unartistic!) small 256-color BMPs, designed for fast display by a wide range of computers. Using higher-resolution figures would slow down my animation work and would add exactly nothing to the final result. Posette works just fine for me!

Lesse... largest base of morphs available, most of them free, or in the case of Traveler's CD, very reasonable for what you get. Vicki 2 has tons of morphs built-in, but very few 3rd party available comparitively. And the tons of "built-in" does no good if she has everything except for that "one thing you need RIGHT NOW dammit!". ;] Vicki, Mike and Stephanie are always going to be great for those of us that can do our own morphs in Rhino, ZBrush, Max or via the arcane mysteries of magnets. My "working posette" has more morphs and a wider variety of body types at my finder tips - and that's not counting the two hundred or more alien morphs for her. A wider base of free clothing. 'Nuff said. Not everyone has a bottomless credit card for dressing their characters. Textures out the wazoo.. and the majority are freebies. Some of the best textures are for posette also. And... If you need versatility for using high res textures, then there's several remaps of the girl including April's P4Vskin [free] and Dmentia's Posavik [worth every penny]. And I may have forgotten a couple from over the years... Plus... high res body mesh versions. And infinite variants... Lesse: there's a version with a high res head on Posette's body at Trav's site. There's several others also, both high res mesh and remapped ones. And if you need to use your Viki [and now Stepahnie] morphs, but dont need the overhead of a Vicki or mIke - there's several excellent "Vicki and Mike's head on Posette/Dork's bodies" available. Er... if you're going to clothe them, you don't need the high res body. And there's tons of p4 clothing for both, including a few items that don't exist yet for Mike & Vicki. Vicki poses better without distorting? Bull - there's Eve. A clue - Eve invented the jointing and body cuts that Vicki and Mike use. And, like Vicki p4, Eve can wwear all of Posette's stuff, with a wee bit of tweaking. And unlike Viki P4, Eve will use ALL of Posette's face/head morphs. {there's always been some interesting speculations on why Vicki's body/joint cuts look so much like Eve's considering Eve came first - but we won't go there. ;)] For developement, especially for freestuff, Posette is superior - no mucking about with Mor donor files or all that other crap that you have to go through to develope for the Millenium people. As long as you only transfer the cr2, not the obj's, yer cool. [Keeping in mind other restrictions on textures and morphs, natch] So... Vicki is cool. Stephanie is cool. A replacement for Posette? Not a chance. I think that the Millenium people are as widespread as they are because, Hey - lets face it, people who shelled out the money for them want to use them. And they want to feel like they got their bucks worth. Nuthin wrong with that... But the primary purpose of Mike, Vicki and Stephanie is to make money for Daz, and for people who develope and sell stuff for them. Nuthin wrong with that either. But do remember the "bottonless credit card" crack I made. ;] Sorry - the only real replacement for Posette and Dork will be when Poser 5 comes out and it includes new standard figures that will then become the basic poser tools for an entire new generation of poser artists.

Posette is really much easier to work with, and if you aren't doing close-up work, she looks just as good. I agree with Wolf359's observations, but this problem can be fixed usually with very minor post-work. I guess I use roughly: Posette: 75% Eve: 20% Vicky: 5%

Dead? nope! V. has more potential as she have more vertices but it's how you use those vertices that counts, and i like my own poset based figure better than V. and V.2. The bodymorpher model does what i want it to do and looks the way i want it to look, V. and V.2 doesn't even come close (OK so i have only tested them for 1-2 hours, but the bodymorphs where not up to the job).

So why buy something that you have to heavily modify when you can just as easily modify something you already have?

Bodymorpher 1 mk.2 will probably be released this Easter. I have made a proper thumbnail for it this time around, so it should be easier to find.

BM1 can be found by clicking on the link, it's the second last item in the Julekalender.

The image is a cut-out (the BG is rather jpeg unfriendly) of a render i made a couple of days ago, just lightly retouched (colours, added shadow and some joints)

You get what you put into it. Posette out of the box looks like a plaster mannequin, it's true. But she has enough polys in the head to make substantial improvements.
These are just twelve examples.

praxis22 ( ) posted Wed, 13 March 2002 at 12:52 PM

I think that Posette looks far prettier "out of the box" than Vicky. It takes a lot more to make her look believable than it does Posette. Admitedly Vicky shines in closeups, but the Japanese contingent here seem to make more use of Posette than Vic. Think, Mimi, Lin Lin & Ran Ran, etc. later jb

I find this very interesting. It just shows how everyone has a different perspective and preference for how people or things look. Everyone is right, in their own way. We all have our own view on the world. No one's opinion is really more right or wrong than anyone else's. It's just a difference of how we see things and what we prefer. Note also the very useful Ultramorph Woman from Confusius - Posette with so many morphs that it's easy to develop many new characters from her.
