Hi, I haven't had time to really work with Poser 4 for a while, and now I'm on Windows XP. Will I have any major issues? (I have Poser 4 but not the Pro Pack.) I did search the forum and I found mixed answers on XP. TIA, Mark

Hi Mark, Other then some issues with a Video card driver, my move to XP has been painless. Poser runs smooth on XP.

Hey Mark, I also upgraded to XP (from W2K), and I didn't have any problems. Curious Labs will tell you that XP isn't supported in the current version but will be in Poser 5 (not that they flat out tell you that there's a new version coming), but I don't think there are any reported problems. Good luck! Aaron

Poser works just fine on XP (at least for me). If a program works on windows 2000, it will usually work on XP. The only exceptions seem to be driver-specific programs (cd-burning software, etc) and firewalls. I had an issue with a poser-helper program called "MorphSqueeze". But it works fine if run in Windows 95 compatibility mode. Sorry to ramble on...

I'm on XP now and poser 4 and propack work just fine.

I have WinXP and Poser runs like a dream on it. I have other issues with XP but Poser is definitely not one of them. No more freezing and being unable to handle large renders or files with XP.

I had many misgivings over XP (still do) and think the new UI looks tacky, but I finally bit the bullet and gave it a shot. I can now render scenes I never could before. I tried the three most complicated heavily textured scenes I made before...ones that I had to layer render with WinME...and every one of them worked (they went slow, but they worked). I just rendered a scene with Vicki2 and THREE Mike2s and it didn't even choke on that. I have to admit that I'm pretty happy. So far I haven't come across any programs that won't run (except for the CD Creator program that I knew about before hand). I had one glitch on upgrade...for some reason my modem vanished and I had to unplug/replug the card in the slot to get windows to find it again. But it plug and play reinstalled when I did that and has worked fine since so ??? Now if Bill would just stop spying on me...

If you hate the look of the interface (I hate both the new bubblegum one and the classic one) you can get this program called StyleXP and let you design or load all sorts of different looks to your interface: Style XP: http://www.tgtsoft.com/ Theme XP to see what kind of themes are out there (and there are alot!!!) http://www.themexp.org/

thanks for the links traveler, I'll have a look at the later, just as a side note, I'd just like to say the new site design is great and I love all the freebies you put up for us, thank you for inspiring all us mere mortals

I have a very minor issue with Poser and XP: the library interface is slightly off so I can't easily select the characters without switching to the big buttons instead of the small dots. (The small dots from Character, Pose, etc. that you see when you actually have a submenu open vs. looking at just the main library options open.) I can't figure out how to fix it. The character option in small dot form is a few pixels too high, running into the toolbar and thus not selectable.

You bought a P4... Why? Other than that, poser runs fine on XP, I did a render "test" on my laptop, once I'd beefed up the RAM to 512Mb with 4 characters, SMV, VV2, Mia and a free character I forget the name of :) Clothed them in Asia & Noa, Mia and one other (fairly hires) as well as the DAZ "updo", Flip hair, and the wedgecut and one of Kozaburo's creations, as well as clothes by Phil C and Billy T (saves out as a 50Mb file) and it rendered without a hitch at 3000 x 3000, took a while, but it worked. Now considering that before I couldn't get vicky 2 to render if I had both updo and skin texture loaded, (it just hung) I consider the test a success! :) It's still terminally flaky if you try to tweak outside of what is allowed in "idiot" mode, I'm going to re-install this weekend I think, but poser has no problems at all. later jb
