Subject: Anyone make Milgirl socks?

'k - I had recently got the Millennium Girls awhile back. Having recently been paid, and finally having some time, I decided to get some clothes for these little critters... Fortunately, PWFW Milgirl clothes are semi-plentiful and I have a subscription :) Now - here's the problem: I can find every known article of clothing for the Mil Girls, except socks! Most of the R'osity clothes sets and DAZ3D clothes sets have everything a mesh-monger could ever want, just no socks. The vicky socks won't fit without a bazillion years of modification, and even Tailor won't pull it off quite right (works great for everything else, tho') Anyrate, It all boils down to the fact that I need a pair of socks for the Mil Girls... ankle, knee-high, anything (I can transmap up or down to fit if I have to.) Someone know where I can get/buy a pair? Also, some recommendations on which clothing kits are best would be really appreciated as well. /P

Not exactly, have I made a pair for the Mil Girls. I did a pair for Vic and just tested them. The calf muscles happen sooner with the PT girl, but I you have Vic socks, you can adapt them. Keep the sock as unconformed and fit it. See how much scaling is needed (~91% for PT girl for me). Export the scaled sock. I wish I could remember which of the export boxes keep the proper group names, the options are clear as mud. Cut down a Mil Girl CR2 to point to the new geometry. See Bloodsong's recent thread on how to do this. The JP are enough different Vic to girls , that using a Vic based cr2 and scaling it will not work. I bet The Taylor could fix the calf problem.

Never thought of scaling it and modifying the .cr2 first... I also notice that the Milgirl has pbm_heavy, whereas the vicky legs don't; Tailor can fix that part of it for sure. I think what I'll do is to export each leg as an .obj, ship it into AC3D, and see if I can't build a set of socks from scratch... it'll take awhile, but at least the results will fit :)

If AC3D is a native vertex modeler, try this: Make sheet of quads (squares) about 10x12. Open it in UVM and map it as a pure rectangle. Open it and the leg in the modeler and morph it around the foot. I have found that the mapping is better preserved if the points that meet are given identical locations, but not welded. It makes morphing the finished prop tricky - the points must stay identical. You can subdivide as much as you need to, to get the right shape, but do not add points outside the perimeter. Keep as many of the facets quads as you can. Poser seems to smooth quads better than triangles. It is making clothing sort of the same way real clothing is made.

Hmmm ... with something that skin tight you might just use a modified bump map. You'd have to find an MT to close off the toes though. Just a thought ...

I started playing around with it last night... I think I can pull it off, but it'll take something a little bigger than AC3D to do it (it doesn't do morphing at all, much to my chagrin.) Since I'm nowhere near wealthy enough to go buy 3DS Max, I'll prolly have to go looking for something better. Any (cheap) suggestions? /P

If you can find a remaindered copy of RDS 5.5 at <$99, it would be worth it. For full retail, everyone has a favorite program. RDS gets you on a less expensive upgrade path for Carrara. It is sort of a marriage, TrueSpace, Cinema, Carrara, so look and test and try out before you commit.

I think I'll go hunting it down... I did try a little trick this morning of working to graft Misty's catsuit (comes with the excellent Misty Blossom char. pkg in the Marketplace) with the toes from Vicky's socks... it'll be a tough fit, but I believe it will work just fine for my own personal use once it comes together (doubt I could give it away, though - I'm using Jack Kammerer's catsuit meshes to do it. OTOH, I could easily write a tutorial showing how I did it, no?) with that as a base model, I could then texture and transmap for length. Still, must move onward towards a solution that everyone else can use! :)
