dyan ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 11:19 AM · edited Wed, 29 January 2025 at 11:25 PM

I'm getting poser3 How do I know what models, props, etc. will work in PZ3? I see that some characters and morphs say PZ3 & others say PZ4, but some don't say anything.I DNL'D some and unziped them only to find out it said for the PZ4 male or must have a particular bought model. Would appreciated a reply. Thanks for a great forum with such knowledge.

You can got to the last page of freestuff and download some stuff. I think everything from 1999 should work with Poser 3.

thanks! Is there numbers I should look for like PZ3? Why do some things don't say what version it will work in? Will all props work? Lots of questions! I know.. but thats how to learn!

The version number is in the first lines of a PZ3/CR2... file (you have to open them with a texteditor or wordpad):

<br></br>{<br></br><br></br>version<br></br> {<br></br> number 4.01<br></br> }<br></br>....<br></br>

I don't know what you mean,"the first lines" where are they? But anyway, what I have to look for is if it says PZ3 or PZ4 and of course PZ3 is the one I need, right? Will all props work?

Poser files (PZ3/CR2...) are text files. You can open them with a editor or wordpad. The extension of Poser 4 files is the same as for Poser 3 files (PZ3). You can't discern them this way. Most Props should work in Poser 3, they usually don't depend on other files.

Roughly speaking everything will work in Poser 3 except:-
  • Any P4, Michael or Victoria figure/clothing unless you have purchased those items separately.
  • Conforming clothing (The work around is to pose the figure and copy the pose to the clothing)
  • Transparencies. Poser 3 does not support transparency.
  • Some texture maps ... you may need to convert to TIF format

I know there is more but those are the main differences. If you are downloading freebies you have nothing to loose by trying. You may get a "Newer Version" error... just click the button labeled "yeah ok I got the hint, I'll upgrade one day" and continue loading.

I still have my old site on line which is totally Poser 3 and all free, help yourself. Just bear in mind that they are my early works.

You can get some textures and a couple of female figures from here http://www.spaceports.com/~helend/Textures/Women/Frameset1.html Paul Hafeli's All Morph woman is one of the models. It has morph Targets that change the hips to look like a dress.. WE loved it when we use Poser 3. If memory serves me correctly she is on page 1 Helen

...and don't get confused by the filename extension ".pz3". The same extension is used for scene files in both Poser-3 and Poser-4 (there is no ".pz4" extension). If purchased separately, DAZ's Vicky & Mike figures will (should) work in P3 -- except, IIRC, there is a limit in P3 on the maximum number of MorphTargets that can be displayed per body part, so some may not appear. (was that patched prior to P4?)
