Subject: Windows XP - Magic Bullet - Rendering Problems Gone

I don't know if it will work for you. But it worked for me.

I own about five computers at home + one more at the office; one of my machines is a 1Ghz AMD Athlon + 512MB RAM + 64MB Video Card machine. It orginally came loaded with Windows ME. Another of my machines is a 1Ghz AMD Athlon + 128MB RAM laptop. Being such an addict, I must have a machine with me at all times and in all places.

Well, today I decided to risk the gamble: I bought the Windows XP Professional upgrade. I installed it, and, in a word, my Poser rendering difficulties are gone. My machine will now render scenes which it always crashed on before.

Beautiful. What Joy.

Now, if only I could do something about that Bill Gates spyware that comes along with the XP OS.........

Oh, yeah, and I should mention that I am running Windows 2000 on my office workstation, with Linux on the server. Maybe I should try Poser there, too.........

Windows XP has worked flawelessly for me since I first installed it. Poser is one program that will potentially bring your computer to its knees. It seems Poser behaves badly if everything is not exactly correct. I had Windows ME for a time, and was totally amazed how many times my computer crashed. It doesn't crash now, and is on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

@ Xenophonz : go to this website and download the XP Antispytool (it's freeware) and your problems with the integrated MS Spyware are gone with a click (there is an english version of this website too). It's strongly recommended by a lot of german computer magazines. Friederike

I have some very close German friends. Too bad that my friend's company is sending him back across the water in about six months. But, I'm sure that they will live well right across the border from Switzerland. Beautiful country, from what I've heard.

Thanks a lot for the info, Puntomaus. Later today, I'll give the website a try.

Now I'm an avid Windows user *hanging head in shame* but do play with Linux on my older, slower machine.

But I'll share this link with anyone interested in the 'darker side of XP'.
It's from my favorite HTML editor Arachnophilia who has just realised an All Platform version.

One last note: most of the techs where I work loaded XP, but have since reverted back to Win2000 or at least Win98SE on our home machines....

Yep...XP did it for me too. I can't believe what I can render now. XP hasn't been "flawless" though. IE6 has stupid new bugs (including an annoying habit of screwing up my cookies), and MS software is still what crashes most often for me, but those problems are no worse than what I had with WinME and at least they don't take the whole PC with them when they die.
