Hey All, Dave71, Cin- & Xena are hosting a great contest, The idea is to create a character morph for your favorite Poser character (it can be any of the currently available Poser characters...Daz People, P4 People, Dina, Natalia etc...) Render it in a portrait type image and post it to the Poser gallery, add a link to the image here so we can find the entry. What we are looking for is unique characters, no entries from characters in the MP, these must be character morphs you make yourself, you can use either the standard Morph dials or your own creations from other programs but the character can not be already available. There are 4 categories: 1 - Realistic Male 2 - Realistic Female 3 - Fantasy Male 4 - Fantasy Female Only two entries per person allowed. The contest will start on the 11th March 2002 & will finish on the 18th March 2002. Winners will be announced here in this forum on the 21st March 2002. So what are the prizes, well.... 1st place from each category can choose two of the following items: * Dave71's Youthful Faces for Victoria * Cin-'s DokMai for Victoria * Xena's Pablo for Michael 2nd place from each category will get the item that 1st place didn't choose. The only condition is that 1st & 2nd place must offer the morph as a freebie in Freestuff when the contest is complete. When you post your entry, state what character the morph is for & what category the entry is for..Judging will be done by Myself, Cin- and Xena. Enjoy this competition and have fun....

Xena ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 5:28 AM

I'm really looking forward to what y'all come up with on this one s

Valandar ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:32 AM

What if you've already done one, and it's already in Freestuff?

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Cin- ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:55 AM

Hrmm... I'm sort of unsure about that one Valandar... if it's already available, even in freestuff then it wouldn't really be eligible... Dave mentioned no characters from the Marketplace, but then: "Morph dials or your own creations from other programs but the character can not be already available." But lets wait to hear Xena's and Dave's oppinions before we decide... they're both probably asleep now though... they live on the wrong side of the world y'know.

Dave71 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 2:33 PM

Well, I'd like to see ones that are not already available, makes the contest a little more interesting if you have to make one from scratch. We will confirm this.

Valandar ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 2:43 PM

Ah, okay... because it was my self-portrait... "Valandar's Vanity"

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Cin- ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 2:57 PM

lol I have an idea for ya Valandar... if you have Stephanie, do what's been done to Dan Farr... turn your Michael self portrait face into a Morph for Stephanie! :)

Valandar ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 3:08 PM

O.O i.e., find out what I'd look like as a female? 8-P

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Dave71 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 3:14 PM

Hmm...interesting, where does Stephanie go? hmmmmm...

Cin- ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 4:35 PM

lol Dave... Well legally, if a person has a sex change operation they are classified as their new sex... so any Stephanie character images I would think would go into the female category, but then we may run into some problems with those asexual alien races in the Fantasy category. :)

bloodsong ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 5:38 PM

hmph... no animals!?! :) erm, so.... can i enter characters i was gonna enter in the daz m2 contest? if you use the standard morph dials.... then how can you make your morph available? are you allowed to spawn m2/v2 morphs from the dials? i haven't mucked with that, yet, i just make face library files.

Cin- ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 5:46 PM

If you use standard morph dials you can make it availabe as a face file (fc2) or pose file (pz2) containing the dial information. If you haven't already entered the M2 morph to the DAZ contest, then I don't see why you couldn't enter it here... I'm not sure what DAZ's rules are though, entering it here may make you ineligible there.

Xena ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 6:45 PM

And yeah I was asleep :) I try to only do it once a day :P Well, I'd like to see ones that are not already available, makes the contest a little more interesting if you have to make one from scratch. I totally agree. And please Val, do your morph on Stephanie. I'd love to see it :) Blood, who says the fantasy male or female can't be an animal ;)

Dave71 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 6:50 PM

I didn't say no animals, so I'd like to see them too.

Summfox ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 8:00 PM

Couple questions - can I submit early? I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow, so won't be here for the start of the contest. I can always submit later on in the contest though, I suppose. And my second question - can I enter images that I've already made and put in my gallery?

6Dprime ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 9:41 PM

Please define "portrait."

Face only? Whole bodies? Clothes on? Nude?

Are you scoring points for background and volumetric lighting effects or will the plain model do?

Dave71 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:07 PM

file_284545.jpg

Summfox - We tried to set the start date so people could get ready, if you are not gonna be back in time for the finish then I suppose an early entry would be alright. I personally would prefer new images but I am not gonna be strict on that....will check with Xena and Cin- 6Dprime - Portrait, something along the lines of this image would be a portrait in my books, postwork is up to the entrant but we will be judging on the morph itself not the image so it is up to you....I am a postwork nut so couldn't submit anything without adding hair, lighting etc...

6Dprime ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:25 PM

Having shown THAT, anyone without Real Eyes just doesn't stand a chance. Hats off to Cake1.

Xena ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:47 PM

Aren't they gorgeous! Dave converted Pamela's eyes to the Real Eyes and did a render for me. I came straight to the store and bought them. They are awesome :) Portrait to me is above breast and upwards. Whole bodies are pinups. So clothing really won't make a marked difference if you are only using the head. It might make some difference if you do something like Dave's above. Jewelry on the fingers, a turtleneck sweater ... these things you'd be able to see in a picture like Dave's :) I love doing postwork too s Please don't postwork your morph to make it look like something it isn't though. Only use postwork on things like lighting, hair, etc. Not the morph itself. But by all means be creative s I'd prefer new images as well. Let's see what Cin- has to say LOL PS .. Dave, you should try that render with smaller hands. She's so delicate yet she's got Vicki hands. Ok, I'm going back to Stephanie now ;)

Dave71 ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:54 PM

Thanks Xee, haven't worked on her body yet, but small hands is a great idea...of the subject.....

6Dprime ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 10:59 PM

I asked about the definition of "portrait" for two reasons: 1) A message above refers to the pz2 files, which could contain whole body morphs, and often do 2) I know of no one who has not both their face and their body Every girl I have ever loved has both her face and her body etched into every quantum of my beingness. I cannot separate the two.

Xena ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 6:56 AM

If you want to make both face and body, go for it :) But this contest is for portrait images only. We would have to ignore entries that weren't portrait as we have described. Ok, enough of me being the bad gal LOL I do agree with you 6D. Anyone I have been with is never just a face nor just a body. Both were part of the package .. along with her heart, mind and soul s And Dave, since when do threads stay on topic around here wink

Summfox ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 11:25 AM

Mine just happen to be a matched couple. :)

Fantasy Female - Vicki - "Portrait of an Elven Woman"

Fantasy Male - Michael - "Portrait of an Elven Man"

bloodsong ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 12:35 PM

welllll.... normal human male and normal human female, and fantasy male and fantasy female.... well... doesn't leave much room for a normal canine male dog ;) oh i see. ::reads again:: it says normal male/female, but not human. although all the 'for example' models were humans. but that doesn't mean you're humanocentric or anything ;D thanks, guys. :)

Cin- ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 2:14 PM

We're very species tolerant.

Momcat ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 4:49 PM

A few questions: 1)Where do we post entries? 2)What are the requirements for the morph? The reason I ask #2, is that I have a facial MT complte, but am still working on the body (which will take much longer than the face). Does the body have to be complteted before entering the portrait image?

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 4:59 PM

Hi Momcat :) #1 In the gallery of yor choice - and a link in here to it please. #2 It's only a portrait competition so it wouldn't matter if the body was done or not :)

Momcat ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 5:31 PM
Xena ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 5:41 PM

Thanks Momcat. She is going in the Realistic section of the comp?

Momcat ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 5:46 PM

Yes, she is. I just hope she's realistic enough. >^_^

6Dprime ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 7:32 PM

What time zone will be used for the cutoff time?

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 9:14 PM

Now that's an interesting question :) Might be Australian seeing as Dave is the most organised on this competition. Besides, it's two Aussies amd one American judge. We might make Cin- work around our time snicker Let's see what the fella's have to say s

6Dprime ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 9:24 PM

I don't know what has been used in past contests, but this site displays its time, and could be used to arbitrate for those +/- 5 minutes differences among servers around the world. So, maybe we could say prior to March 19th, 00:00 CST (GMT/UCT-6) as kept by this site?

Cin- ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 9:31 PM

I always think in terms of Renderosity standard time. ;) And it's not like it's that hard for me to keep your time Xee... my schedule, as you well know is very weird anyway... :)

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 9:31 PM

Yeah that's probably the best. (works for me boys) International time conversion tries my patience :) Thanks 6D for the suggestion.

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 9:39 PM

Hullo you :) Didn't know you were online. We are doing that weird posting at the same time thing again LOL

6Dprime ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 10:06 PM

That's a concept! Renderosity Standard Time (RST)! Good one Cin-!

6Dprime ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 10:13 PM

Oh, and you're most welcome Xena. I work on a planetary/global basis most of the time, so these time/date things are always real issues for me.

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 10:29 PM

When I was working for a company in America 2 years ago, and was involved with someone in Ireland, I had 3 clocks all set to the current time in Boston, Dublin and here. Made life sooo much easier to just look at the clock and say "Ok, time to ring Boston". For me what makes it harder is when it's a big place like the States, because there are so many different time zones. Here is Australia I think there are only 2 time zones and daylight savings to deal with - and that time zone is only half an hour behind here :) Waiting on Dave's final word on the time zone. He's probably still at work. Nar nar ;)

6Dprime ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 11:01 PM

That's interesting Xena. If you look around the world, time zones are off by 15 mins, 20 mins, 30 mins, 45 mins, besides all the 1X hour deltas. So I find it interesing that you are comfortable with a half-hour delta. Never heard anyone say that before. (What does "nar" mean?)

Xena ( ) posted Mon, 11 March 2002 at 11:14 PM

Nar nar = taunting Dave because he's still at work :) And I mean that it's easy for me to work out the time on the other side of Australia because it's simply half an hour less than this side of Australia. When I have to try and remember that one place in America is -16 hours and another is -14, etc, etc it gets to be confusing. I can never remember which one is which. I talk to Cin- a lot and can usually remember his time. 5pm here is about 10pm the day before there :)

Cin- ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 1:39 AM

Xena is the future girl... :)

Dave71 ( ) posted Tue, 12 March 2002 at 3:04 PM
