I found a nice solid base 57 chevy model available in the free section of 3D Cafe (and available vertually everywhere else free models are available) and I am currently working on enhancing it and making it work in Poser. So far I have split it up and colorized it. It will end up a character model so I can have the front wheels and steering wheel turn together. Still haven't found a 65-66 Mustang model though.

Thanks to Stephen King, I can't look at that chassis any more without thinking of Christine.

FYI: Christine was a Plymouth not a Chevy. I loved that movie. I am a major Car guy if you couldn't tell.

Nothing in the world that smells sweeter, cept maybe for pussy! LOL Nice work.. All it needs is some fluffy dice..

You better make sure it doesn't belong to someone. I cut up a bunch of cars from 3d cafe for use in Poser like the van, the semi, some of the suburban cars and got some flak for redistributing someone else's models.

Yeah, I know she was a '58 Plymouth Fury, but almost anything with four wheels and tailfins reminds me of her. :)

The original model is available at almost every site that has free models and has been around for ages. It also didn't come with any restrictions. There are several free models out there that do come with restrictions and others that don't, I always check the readmes. I haven't decided whether it will be distributed or not. I still have alot of work to do before I can even consider it. I am currently creating an engine for it.

ROTFLMAO Ashlyn! But so true. I for one am looking forward to the results of Duddly's project. I tried remapping the 57 Chevy awhile back and really made a mess of it. I really like your body color. I remember that the dash and whitewalls have the chrome texture on the original model.

Duddly ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 8:15 PM

There was one with the with the whitewalls and dash already textured? The one I started with was a single .3ds object with absolutely no textures or material mapping whatsoever, Bummer. Oh well, I'm way past that now. I'm planning on it even having the ability to have wide whites or narrow white walls (as in the picture). My wife has always likes the light turquise color for the 57 so that is what I am going with to start.

Yes, the one that I have has 6 different materials. I think I got it at 3D Cafe. But, like you said, your passed the point of needing that now. It makes what you done so far even more impressive to me though. Keep us posted on your progress. Think about a bump map for the seat inserts. That would really be a nice touch. I think the side panel on the body is stainless steel with a ribbed effect. I have a nice 55 Buick Century (they were much faster than the chevys of that era by the way) that I bought from TurboSquid. It was originally a taxi cab, but I removed all of the taxi crap. Good luck.

I currently have a texture map put together for the headlights, parking lights, grill emblem, tail lights, side trim inserts, dash stainless, guages, valve covers, etc. Still need to find some good shots of the interior soft trim and interior door panels. Any ideas where I could find a site with good soft trim examples?
