Subject: Sick of the banners.Reason: Access to the site is slown down by them.

liftan ( ) posted Wed, 20 March 2002 at 5:52 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 8:54 PM

_A many who don't open it and think the same as me, my suggestion is maybe to demand Renderosity to slow down the amount of anmated banners which are slowing the access to the site. It makes the pages loading waiting a life-time to load, and, let's be honest: If we want to go to the Market Place, we have a liknk called" Market PLace. Let peopel choose not to see the banners. _Well, I know it's "sponsoring" the site. well, it shouldn't EAT the site making it become more a "buying" site than an Art-Site... What do you think honestly ? I'm okay with selling stuff, but it's not tolerable being harrased, "Suggested" to buy evey five seconds, and not being able to load anything else becausethe banners take too much memory to load even with a strong computer processor... You know, we are here to do art, comment, bring something to art, and watch Art. Buying is totally another kind of site. _think an annex site to renderosity would be goos if it was "to work better", go to: http://www.after.Render.then.buy.on.rendeosity.if you.need.it.com Do you know what I mean when Renderosity guests-artists go online, then, instead of being in art, they are in a art-device & accessories store, and sure, they would like every second a new tool to make them better ? _We say, in french: "A bad worker has always bad tools." I let all of you guys think of it...Yes, the site is slown down with all these banners. No doubt. If business goes, helps & accompains art,it's okay. Whe art disappears behind as an accessory, then the goal must be told: The new deal is dealing, not Art. Let's be honest with and towards all, about us and as well the ones who want to sell helpful stuff tohelp artists, at least. Sorry for my bad english, hope you uns=derstand my point of view, don't mean to be harsh. Alf.

Harrassed? I don't see that at all. Renderosity is more than just free stuff, forums and galleries. Anyone with a bit of talent can make a bit of money on this hobby they love.
Unless you're on a dinosaur of a computer it's not that bad. Try clearing your cachet or defraging and see if your system runs better.

Personally, I love seeing whats new. I end up clicking on at least 2 banners a day.

I think they've been tweaking the servers. The slowdown has nothing to do with banner adds. Rich

FYI - The banner ads are all under 20kb. Very very small. Clint

Seems to me that banners and ads of all sorts just kind of have become a part of internet surfing. There are very few sites that don't use them, and some sites which are incredibly obnoxious about it, with all kinds of flashing, annoying things going on. Renderosity's banner ads are very tame compared to alot of what you see out there regularly.

Banner ads are good if they generate capital and bring people to their specific site. Most stats show this is not so. I'm inclined to look for someone's store when I see their name advertised or given credit to on a piece of art. The newsletter (I love receiving it) advertises the market place as does the home page of renderosity. I will give renderosity credit for having the least obtrusive banners I've seen in a long, long while. I guess I just really miss the "old" internet when there were more home pages and less advertising!

The sort of banner that we don't want is movies with many frames (they take a long time to load), and banners with timewasting Java or Javascript in like that silly "click the monkey" that was among the banners a while ago.

Renderosity is no worse than any other site on the net, not by a long shot. And if you watch TV, than you really shouldn't complain about net advertising. Just be thankful we don't get any pop-up bullshit from Renderosity. Incidently, if you don't wnat Gif animation, download the Opera Web Browser, and in the preferences, turn off Gif Animation. Also with Opera, I NEVER get any pop up windows, ever, as opposed to IE where I get 40 every three seconds or so.

You can also turn off animations in IE 6 under the Advanced tab in the Options, and In NN 6, under Preferences.

Franky, I remain stunned and impressed by the lack of intrusive advertising here. When I think about sites like Yahoo (OK, so the numbers are a lot bigger), their ads are becoming more and more obnoxious. I belong to a couple of groups there, and the ads now actually expand across the text of people's posts! I know they're hurting for money these days, but still....

Not the banners are slowing down. There is something different causing slow downs in the marketplace. I can browse with normal speed in the oversight. But if I want more information about a product I have to click on it's picture and then it is loading the page soooo slow. And the "Add to wish list" function is slow too. I was not able to add several products to my wish list due this. Seravajan

"Spitits of Ancient Egypt, Shadows of Ancient Rome": All i can see with an Intel Pentium III 1.3 GigaHertz 256 Megas RAM, 2 X 40 Gigas Hard Drive Windows 98 Second Edition, no other task resident, no anti-virus program slowing down then machine...(I use Netscape though, an old one...I banned Internet "Espy-horror" from my "new keyboard"...and harddrive, never liked Monopoles, even a "marketing" one on the Web), with this new "keyboard & stuff" I can only see that: MarketPlace IS NOT slown down. Renderosity main other pages are. Why ? Then, okay.... Let's call it better: http://www.render.if.you.can.but.marketplaces.are.the.main. things.are.great@MarketCity.com FIGHTING AND WINNING FOR A PLANETARY FREE COMPUTER-RELATED COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HUMANS! FREEDOM ! yes ! (Junk-mails and abusive merchandisers & all from "Mr.Taxmen's:-You-all-need-to-buy" Unsolliscited Collectors, GET OUT OF THIS WORLD OR LOWER DOWN & BE DECENT!) _You think you 've won forever ? See our poor world ! Sailors & captains are sinking in the same boat: The Earth. _I don't want to talk about that anymore, because I'm sick being wrong all the time,it seems that I MUST be wrong...just d'like to be like other US citizen: never wrong ! (LOL) So, just please just f'get it, and let me get back to my bad artworks. (hi hi) (Another excerpt from "The Silence of the Calves".) ...oh, by the way "down" today, I made a christian abnoxious dreadful comic-placard, but a "reality-show" sample pix(today's my 55th birthday, don't care, I look 42...) about the anti-terrorist speech of Johannes-Popo-Immobile about the biggest problem on earth, which is supposed to be "pedophily" (an ugly thing, but such a few monsters are involved, compared to Middle-East War Criminals, (worst than Milo-Drakul or Hitler, let's see: Pinoch-Kiot is still free in Chili, the poor thing is so sick...and Aurellia Charogne has nothing wrong, of course _ another placard...(Strange ! they'll be forbidden soon, I 've read that on the news...as well as "Dubyu's Campain Finance Bill" which proposes to cut free-speech) and what Johannes sees as "the worst of the Evil-Axis"...Surprise, because, yes, I'm christian, but I thought that War-crimes, or simple "CrimeS" were worst than some small bunch of ugly monsters and pedophiles, okay, they deserve what they'll get_excepted when posted with no name but "shy & respectful innocent banners", hidden under some "young child faces for Poser" on Renderosity as well as on other sites... (kind of: Before doing the Act, I'm not a criminal, even if Isuggest the crime(n)...with "swords" and poses of young people...some seem to preconize it HERE and I dare denouvce it, excuse me ! _I will tell what I see on the holly banners if I'm wrong, then...!!! Enough ! Tell me again thatI'm wrong ? Didn't hear ya ! Enough already of this hypocrisy. Have a look at my silly pplacard and tell me what you think. It's called:"Anti-terrorist Popo-Immobile" I am gibberish, I know, I know, I know... You're right, let's place to the Market, before the sky falls on its head, on my head and on yours too...this is SO gibberish too, ain't it ? Please excuse my totally partial, Christian and ammoral temporary anger...IF you can... Not everybody can... sO SORRY, EVERYONE COULD,JUST A LACK ABOUT WANTING IT DONE. Alf.
