Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
At first i was afraid all is not yet good enough for so many expierienced Artists here to show but Evanara had a first Look at my pictures and has blown this fear away. Thanks Eva!! And thanks to all of you, it`s a happy day for me !!:O))) Hiram, this stairs leading up to a second floor .... i now, the roof :O))) ...just magic! :O) and to the old dark cellar. Behind the linked sentences under the little Pictures you will find the Tavern from the outside. Both second floor and cellar i have to work on, are not build right now. Greetings, Webbird
To make it most practical for later use i have a question. Do you like each wall as separate Prop or all the walls, roof and floor in one piece ???? In one piece its more easy, you dont have to adjust scale or placing. In pieces you can maybe use the parts for new scenes. Please let me know !!! Greetings, Webbird
I find that having each level all as one piece, and the roof separate, works best, as long as the exterior walls are grouped individually, so they can be made invisible at need. This usally results in the most useful mesh for a building. That way, no-one needs to load more of the model than they need for a particular render, and being able to leave the top off & make exterior walls invisible, helps tremendously in blocking, dressing, lighting, & setting up scenes. The detail shown in your render above is really marvelous!
Hi Leatherguy! Thank you for your answer!!! Its very helpful and will do it the way you explained! This is my first projekt for Poser in this size and some Problems have to be resolved but a wonderful way to learn from. First i have only 25 days ( 3D Exploration limit ) and maybe you have some advice. If i import the cob objekts into 3Dex all pieces of a wallsection are grouped and the later objekt for Poser import is one piece. What can i do to have sections as individuel group or part to make it transparent later....or is this not important? Do you had a look at my site ? the L- of the levels have a sidelenghts of about 19 to 20 meters, is this not to big for a one-Level-piece? Greetings, Webbird
webvogel I'm pretty new to modeling, but here's a method I've used to weld pieces in poser, and it seems to work okay; Import the various components into Poser & save in a library, each with different materials applied. Assemble each floor in Poser (minus doors & moveable parts). Export each floor as an OBJ file. Re-import to Poser. It'll all be one mesh. Each piece with a different texture should be a different group, or you can use the Grouper tool in Poser to separate them. Place & parent any moveable parts, like doors, opening windows, etc. Save off into either a Prop or a Character library (not sure which would work better with the doors:-)). Re-load each floor & the roof into Poser one more time, placing each properly in relation to each other, and then save them all separately one last time from these positions, so when they're imported by new users, they'll assemble themselves automatically. (Don't know if it'll be necessary or desirable to parent them to each other.) Good Luck.
Hi Leatherguy ! My Girlfriend was very patient ....:O) This weekend i have seen the first pictures of the Tavern in Poser and made a variation with a flat roof to support a second level but the wonderful wall over the fireplace is lost and with it the Place to decorate with Shields and Antlers and all this weapons :O((( I like much more the one- level design. Maybe i have to build some parts new because the walls were not build to be pretty looking from the outside :O)))) and slowly, i want to give away a good-quality model. Disturbing are the shadows wich poser make on the surfaces, all looks a little rounded. Do you have expierience with 3DEx ? is there a option between the conversion and importing- work to solve this?. And ...i have build the model 1:1 scale but later had to rescale to 1250 % to have the normal scale in poser!! The good results where: The importet obj. and later props had all materials separate and it is easy to adjust color, texture and ambient-colors. And making the roof transparent was easy in poser and ....there was light :O)))) I will try out your advice and let you now. Greetings, have a wonderful week! Webbird
Regarding the rounded look to the walls - Poser tries to round everything, as it was designed originally for organic figures, but there's a fix for this - In UVMapper (or other compatible program), just choose the "split vertices" option, and Poser will treat the flat surfaces as flat. It adds a bit to the polygon counts, but works well.(UVMapper is available in commercial versions & free "classic" version at http://www.uvmapper.com/. Really easy to use. Another way to get light into a building in poser, is to select a light, and set the shadow intensity to 50% or so (using the dials), this makes that light penetrate objects dimly. You can also turn off shadows for objects (like the roof & walls), which will make them permit light sources through. Makes some scenes look a little odd, but it works. I'm excited by your project. I think you should take as much time as you need to get it to where you're happy with it. I really hope you have time to stay with it all the way, and I want to thank you for sharing your progress. I have created a modell of our chatroom " Wanderers Inn" with Truespace and now i try to bring the whole modell into poser. And with 3D Exploration it works wonderful ! Later this modell will be a little "pay back" to the poser- community as "Free Inn Modell" for Poser Thanks to all !!! Pictures of my inn : http://people.freenet.de/webnest/tav.htm
