After the awoesome work that Sprout did with the helmet(IT'S THE BEST HELMET I'VE EVER SEEN)i couldn't leave the good old Poser legionnaire. So i've tried to make the Roman shortsword "gladio" that legionnaires used in cases of close combat.I don't have amodelling program so i used props.I hope someone could make the shield or the "pilum" the roman spear.I could use some opinions. After minor touches I would posted to Props Guild(I have no site).

Not to worry I have plans for 3 types of shields, the leather cuirass, which I am working on now and much more so all our little Romans will be well equiped. but let me shut up now because this is an awesome sword!! and its your post :O) by the way there is a free version of a modeling program you might want to check out.. http://www.blender.nl/ keep up the Great work Sincerely Sprout :O)

That's excellent work for a prop built out of the P4 primative props Jon. Very impressive. Paul

I also used Akisiel's complex primitives which can be found at Props Guild. You'd be amazed at how much you can do from those. Now, I'm tackling the pilum. Hoping to have everything ready by the weekend.

Nice. But I think the proper name is "Gladius" (Gladii would be plural?). The other main weapon of the legions was the pilum, or spear (in fact, the second in command of a unit was the Primus Pilum, or First Spear), essentially a javelin with the head removed and a 3-4' long lead shaft used to extend it. A very nasty weapon against shield armored foes -- if they blocked it it would get stuck, and the shaft would bend making it difficult to remove and render the shield nearly useless. If they didn't, they'd be hit with the thing with even worse consequences...

Glad to see another history buff here CE. The pilum is finished now, so check the new message (Roman legion...) and tell me what you think.

Actually, I'm more of a mideaval (sp?) and earlier weapons buff than a history buff...
