Subject: Question about downloading for the Windows experts out there...

droyd ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2002 at 11:53 PM · edited Sun, 22 December 2024 at 2:01 PM

I realize there may not be a solution for this but I thought I'd bring it up since maybe others encounter this, and if there is a way to fix it we could all benefit. I used to think this was a Renderosity thing since it only happened to me here but now it happens elsewhere too. What I'm refering to is the inablity (at least for me) to control where your file gets downloaded to when you left click on the download button in the free stuff. I use Windows 98SE. I always used to be able to save a file to whichever folder I wanted to but now when I click on a free stuff download button here it always puts it in my temporary internet folder. I'm not complaining mind you cause free stuff is great, and if I have to just copy it out of there to the folder of my choice no big deal I'll gladly do it. I was just wondering if there is a way to tell windows were to put downloaded files. The old "right click save target as" routine works fine all over the web, but as that wont work here that's not going to do it. Windows guru's tell us the secret ( if there is one )!

At the top of your D/L window, you can direct the file to where you want before you click yes. Also make sure you have save to disk clicked on. Tashar 59

I have Internet Explorer 6 and Windows XP. I've always had the ability to choose where I put a download. I'm always very particular, since I love to be organized.

Goto Internet Explorer properties, and select reset defaults. This should make windows pop uo and ask you what you want to do with the file. Some where along the line you unchecked the box that says,"Always ask when doenloading this type of file"

I agreee with GEEP, right click and choose save-target-as oprion, from there you can choose a directory, should remember last directory used also.

You can't right click on a download button

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 10:00 AM

Maybe you can save something that you can right click on just to get a folder set up. Then everything would go there? Marque

yvesab is on it! It's almost the same as what was stated for 2K, but slightly different in 98. I checked this out by downloading a file in freestuff that was put in the temorary internet folder before so I know this will work (at least for 98SE users). This is definitely a Windows thing and not an IE thang. Go to the Start> Settings> Folder Options. Then go to the File Types tab and find the WinZip File Icon. Click the Edit button. On the Edit File Type tab make sure that the "confirm open after download" box is checked and you're all set! And geep that right click thing never has worked here at Rosity at least not for me. See everybody you ask a question, you get an answer, that's why I love it here!

I have Windows XP and IE6. Sometime within the last couple of weeks I started having the same problem as droyd. Droyd's solution (above) worked for me. Thanks droyd!
