This is a totally new Poser Dragon being built by "Imagination Works for 3D". I don't have a lot of info on it yet, (I'll be getting more this weekend) but the modelers have asked me to get some initial impressions from the people have at Renderosity. I do know it will be coming in gold and red textures as well. So... what do you think? -SMT

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

Cool. I like the design and body map, but not the see through wings.

Jilly ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 6:03 PM

Yeah, the wings need something otherwise it's fine. Will it be coming in green too?

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 6:03 PM

I'm sure that the transparency settings will be adjustable from within Poser, or can be modified with transmaps. He needs a bit more bulk in the chest and arms, and the wing structure will definitely require additional work ... but otherwise it's an excellent design, especially the texture-work. I'd recommend some dorsal ridges along the head, neck, and spine, in addition to the tail. At least as an option. Not all of us are smoothies.

I think he looks pretty good, but I'm also not thrilled with the current wing texture. Should I assume they will be making this as a Poser model, as in fully poseable, or just a model that needs to be set up with bones in all apps that do that? The legs look kind of weak, but I would prefer to have it like this and just make morph targets.

The transparent wing membrane is cool. You can always change the material settings if that's not what you like.

queri ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 7:20 PM

I like the see through wings too-- nice if there were veins in them. The frail front legs are very like medieval dragons which almost have T-Rex teensy front legs. I kinda like that part. His head has character. So do his eyes.

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 7:21 PM

Love the texture. I'd suggest veins for the wings if they are sheer membranes. The arms are too thin and sickly looking. They also need to be set farther back. I'd put the wings behind the arms. There isn't enough room for the dragon to have arm and wing muscles right there.

Barbarellany ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 7:44 PM

The arms are ok but the feet are too small to carry the weight if this thing was ever to land and stand or else need a back claw (spir) at the heel for balance like birds have.

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 8:05 PM

Whoah, good point Crescent; anatomically speaking, you'd be right about that. I also agree that the head and face have alot of character.

igohigh ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 8:10 PM

OOOOOooooooOOOOooooOOOooooo!! Godzilla gives it Two Claws Up!!

igohigh ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 8:12 PM

Second Look: Only one thing, shorten the claws or legthen the toes. From this angle it looks like he may pose a bit akward on the ground...

TMGraphics ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 8:33 PM

The texture work is great!

jaybutton ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 9:51 PM

Wow, looks great! I think his face needs a little bit more expression, though, and I'm not too crazy about the hooks on the ends of his upper and lower jaw. Maybe you could make a morph, so that you don't have to have them. Overall, I like it. :) Jay

Yep I agree, he looks kind of like the nerd dragon that always gets picked on since he isn't very strong. More muscle tone and I think you will have a winner. I also like the vein in the wing skin idea. That would look very nice

TygerCub ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 10:43 PM

I love this sleek, slim look! I've always had trouble with very musclular dragons because muscle adds mass. This is a flying beast, and mass does not always mean strength. A slim dragon looks more areodynamic. The skin texture is gorgeous! My only anatomical complaint has to do with the position of the wings. They need to be behind the shoulders, or in front of them, otherwise, the muscles necessary to power flight would interfere with the muscles moving the shoulders. Personally, I envision the wings set right behind the shoulders so the dragon could grasp or manipulate objects without interfering with the wing's path. Large birds of prey do this with their hind claws, but the object is behind the wing path. If a six limbed critter wishes to carry an object and leave its wings clear, then it would either carry it forward of the wings, or behind them. Can't wait to buy the final product!

I think it needs more muscle structure in the shoulder area to accomodate the wings and arms being in that general area. I also would like to tinker with the texture! :> The link is to a wing texture I'm currently working on for the Zygote Dragon.

Valandar ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 11:26 PM

Personally, I like it, though it is a bit slender for my tastes (hence the Dracos Titanicus I made).... I would have made the wing's "Hand" structure a good bit larger, as a stronger control surface...

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Buffer ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 11:59 PM

You know after some more consideration, maybe this was intended to be a "young" dragon. Just a thought...

ElectricAardvark ( ) posted Sat, 23 March 2002 at 1:02 AM

Looks like he needs to eat something. Looks kinda unhealthy

AprilYSH ( ) posted Sat, 23 March 2002 at 7:52 AM

i like how the wings are attached all the length of the body. i reckon the wings need to be much bigger though.

Thank you all for your feedback :) I'll be seeing Mr. Tom Knight...the head modeler over at Imagination Works...this weekend. I'll forward your suggestions to him. Thanks again. -SMT

Love the body, arms and legs. Great Textures The wings need to be bigger. They should start slightly behind the shoulders, and you absolutely must lose that silly elbow spar really not sure about the head regards peejay

Styxx ( ) posted Sat, 23 March 2002 at 11:28 PM

I like him, this is as close to a perneese dragon as I have seen. Definatly bulk up the chest and arms though.

aleks ( ) posted Sun, 24 March 2002 at 10:17 AM

the texture is stretching badly on his hinder legs (knees) but otherwise: YAY!
