Subject: Puzzlement Re Poser 'Art?'

pruiz ( ) posted Sat, 30 March 2002 at 9:18 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 2:49 AM

Anyone noticed that a relativly small noisy clique of contibutors to the poser gallery who get a relatively small number of viewings ( compared to some very high 'hit' (( hit defined as viewings on a time sensitive scale)) contributors who seem to get next to zero comments - maybe just satisfied viewers?) all religiously comment on each others work in an extremely sycophantic shrill and incomprehensibly esoteric fashion?
These people presumably vote each other exclusively into the top 20 or whatever it's called. Look at the tight correspondence of commentos and the top 20 artist line-up!
This clique also seems to get to try out each others commercial products in beta for free (because they are such brilliant artists? and they are always showing off about who they are grateful to for trying this or that out) and then proceed to showcase the commercial products of their cronies in the clique at the gallery in their posts which they in turn comment on "entre eux" ad nauseam ( vote into the top 20 etcetera) and generally promote, which in turn creates another sycophantic clique spasm of comments voting and presumably buying their products . . .

Maybe this is a particularly sceptical, some might say cynical, view of what's going on with Poser 'art?' or maybe I just got it all wrong.

Either way I just wanted to throw this out there to see if democracy lives in Poserland.
Does anyone dare comment and maybe even agree or will they feel they will be blackballed out of the inner circle which by the way is just as mediocre artistically and organizationally as the rest of us?

New around here, aincha? :) No, this is nothing new. This is a huge community, so a little synchophancy is to be expected. Leave them to their facile amusements.

shhhhhhh pruiz. That's Merchants your talking about! Haven't you read the TOS today? :)

So what you're saying is; If a group of people say supportive things to each other they tend to like each other, and people who like each other tend to ask for & offer help to each other, and be a bit nicer and more generous to each other, and as time goes on, they tend to continue acting the same way? Hardly a conspiracy. It's human nature for most people. I don't have a gallery for reasons I won't go into, but if I were getting kindly, pleasant, and well-intentioned comments on what areas of my art that some folks like, and what/how to do to improve it, I'd tend to look for their postings & reciprocate - only so many hours in a day anyway; why not spend them interacting with folks who seem kindred in taste? It takes time & bandwidth to view as many posts as there are here - concentrating on folks you like is natural.

The sun has set on the poser communtiy at renderosity and, no matter the events, will rise again tomorrow. Render on kids.

Is this the part where we're supposed to grab our pitchforks and torches? "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance!" ??? ROFLMAO. If the NPO (thats New Poser Order) is running the Hot 20 and dumbing down poser art in the process then they really need to get the plan together. Cause Skool Daze's Clarion should be way higher than #10. PS: How can I get a membership and barcode for the clique?

What is TOS?

TOS=Terms of Service The rules Renderosity expects members to follow.

pruiz ( ) posted Sun, 31 March 2002 at 6:06 AM

Oh I see what TOS is - but I'm not in this for profit - just fun, art and . . . By the way while in the area of incomprehensible achronyms what does ROFLMAO mean? Mentioned above by 'moonbiter'. If this is an international community one should be more sensitive to those members whose primary language is not English and who probably have difficulty figuring out these very exclusive achronyms with which the 'in crowd' litters it's communication.

soulhuntre ( ) posted Sun, 31 March 2002 at 6:27 AM

A few thoughts... * Those acronyms, while odd, are hardly exlusive or coined by the "in crowd". They happen to be extremely common ont he web far and wide. * While the web is international, far and away the most common and universal language for web based information is English for a variety of reasons. So while I agree that some effor for non english speaking folks is warrented... ROGLMAO is not a international call to arms :)

pruiz ( ) posted Sun, 31 March 2002 at 7:31 AM

But what does they mean? ROFLMAO and ROGLMAO?

Lordy. I wish I could refer you to the Complaint and Debate forum archive for December/January (has it been that long ago?), but that particular volume of Renderosity history has been deleted by the site admins--the merchants were NOT amused by the extended and often, in my view, hilarious debate on exactly this subject. There was a brief and glorious revolt, which you missed (search on "Legume" in the gallery; be sure to read the comments!); we're now back to business as usual, emphasis on business. Here's Vicky in my latest texture/outfit/prop, gazing soulfully (if somewhat stiffly) into the middle distance. Oh, my! You've done it again! Her hair is amazing!

FishNose ( ) posted Sun, 31 March 2002 at 9:55 AM

Hey Mosca, you hit it right on target! ROFLMAO etc etc I always avoid gallery posts by those cliques of merchants/beta testers - you get to recognise their names in the end. Very tiresome, they are. Let's hope this subject is brought up here on a regular basis also in the future - so everyone is fully informed on the silliness of it all. :] FishNose

milamber42 ( ) posted Sun, 31 March 2002 at 10:54 AM

The Hot 20 for the Poser gallery used to be based upon the number of viewings. There were some complaints and a number of discussions, and then the voting mechanism was put in place. I rarely look at it, and just look at the what's new.
