Subject: Aaaarrr....Help....cannot open obj files...

creativechaos ( ) posted Sun, 31 March 2002 at 2:25 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 7:29 PM

I just finshed installing some of my PoserWorld downloads and went to load them up in Poser and over half of them come back with "cannot open obj files" I thought originally that it was corrupt rsr files, so I deleted the rsr files, restarted Poser and low and behold, still not working. Any other ideas?

Open up the .cr2 file(s) in a text editor and in the first page you will see where the .obj files are supposed to be located.

In Poser with Pro Pack, the .obj files can be anywhere (within 'runtime:...')(and will work).
In Poser without Pro Pack, the .obj files work (or work better) if located in the runtime:Geometries:xxx folder.

I made stuff with ProPack and other people had problems so I moved the .obj files and edited the .cr2 files and the problems were solved.

All I can think of is that you have them in the wrong folder. Check the read-me but most of their downloads go into the Geometry folder in a folder called PWFW. Make sure the obj files are in that folder. Hope that works :) Sassy

Yep double check you have them in pwfw or PWFW (case doesn't matter with folders but does with files) unless they are from the cd sets then the readme will tell you the name, like pwcd3......was there any rsr's to delete coz if it didn't find the obj it shouldn't make one?......Steve

I had them where the read me said, but a lot of the cr2's pointed to other directory's like "pwcd3" or "Pworld" instead of "pwfw" like the read me's direct. :) Thanx for the help guys. I was going batty wondering if it was my system going south again.

the absoulte only other problem I have is when I open certain files (clothing, people, etc it doesn't matter) I get this weird "cannot open Runtimelibrariespose_POSER_TMP_.pz2" warning. I checked, and the file IS there....no clue why it can't open it...doesn't effect loading, just an annoying pop up (And WOW you guys are quick on the draw.)

If you aren't having problems, I would just resave over itself. Joat Mon

creativechaos ( ) posted Sun, 31 March 2002 at 4:41 PM

No, I'm not having problems, it's just a warning saying it can't open it. (Not just on PoserWorld stuff) And not on ALL stuff...everything opens just fine...I just have zero clue what it is, what it does.... but hey, is there a line somewhere in the cr2 that would call for that...cos it's a pz2, isn't that a pose file? (Well duh, it's in the pose folder, ok, so I answered my question myself LOL) But if it only does it on some files, maybe there's a line that calls for that partictular pose on open? Cos once it opens it will pose just fine. shrug who knows...
