Whenever I try to run Poser4 I get a system error and the whole computer freezes before I even get the first loading screen of Poser. I've been adding characters using MacConverter and MacInserter (latest versions) and think there may be some conflict from them. This happen to anyone else? Is there a fix or do I need to re-install the whole thing?

I have never loaded MacInserter and I dont see MacConverter causing a problem due to the fact that it never actualy has anything going on with the program. Have you loaded the patches? I have never had this happen to me ...

I don't know of any Patches for the Mac, I'll see if I can find them. MacInstaller (NOT MacInserter) just puts the files where they need to go without having to do it manally. Thanks

Is any other memory intensive app causing you problems? Rebuild the desktop and zap the p'ram. And with all those crashes a quick run through Norton Disk Doctor would probibly not hurt a bit. For that matter when did you last de-frag your HD? jje

I've got all those apps and done those things--but I'll do it again--Mac OS is funny like that. Anyway, its a specific crash that only happens at the exact same moment of Poser's boot-up. Are there patches for the Mac Poser 4?

There is a Beta patch that I know is around here someplace .. Just not sure where but I dont know if it will fix this problem. You might try backing up your runtime folder and then doing an install and then replace the runtime folder to give you all of your stuff back ...

Its hard to guess with very little facts, but the most common reason for this (apart from a damaged Poser) is memory related. How much (real) RAM do you have, how much virtual and how much is for Poser? You should never give Poser the entire memory, try to leave at least 5-10 MB free for the system to breath. Poser will trigger some system services on startup (QuickTime, to mention just the biggest one), and if there is nothing left at all (while Poser is still starting up) it could start to throw bombs.

Another thing (I don't know how experienced you are, so you might have tried that already): Have you installed any other recent software? Some system extensions from System7 are causing crashes under Sys8/9, and there are some very stupid installers around that sometimes place them. Try to check your System folder for obscure items. If you can, try to install a small clean new System on a separate disk, start from it and try Poser again.

Hi Folks! TwoPynts, this is probably not causing your crash, but also make sure you've allocated sufficient memory to Poser4. (A minimum of 80 MB seems to a good start.) And, if you're using RAM Doubler or any program of that sort, idable it first and then try launching P4. Peter (Dr Zik)
