THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: March Challenge - who's gonna put it together for voting? Clay?

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 10:36 PM · edited Fri, 02 August 2024 at 5:49 PM

So...since one of our glorious moderators (Ken) has stepped down... Perhaps Clay, (or someone else) can put together the entries for the March Challenge so we could do the voting thing? Clay? Anyone? Bueller?

Do you guys want to start using the contests for this? It makes voting very easy and fair. Your thoughts please...

Hmm...maybe it's the long-term radiation from my monitor, but I don't quite understand your question there, spike. Using the contests for what?

Well, ya know how you do the challenges now, One of the mods has to gather all the images and post them. Well, if you used a contest layout, they would all be in one place and the voting would be a snap. Have a look at the link for a example: http://www.renderosity.com/contest.ez?contest_id=47 And this one for the voting example: http://www.renderosity.com/contest.ez?contest_id=59

That would be great! Especially for someone like me, who has a verrrrry slow & sketchy dialup connection. In the meantime, though, we still need someone - Clay? Vile? - to put together the March challenge so we can vote and get started on the April challenge. We've only got 3 weeks left in April, and it takes me that long just to get started - LOL!

Guys, give me some help and I will try and get things running. Where are the images? Links? Who picks the next challenge? Clay is bussy and I will help all I can.

The images are in the forum. Everyone just posts theirs as challenge entry. Ken always gathered them up and put all the images in one thread, everyone then voted in that thread. The winner picks the next challenge and gets an award image to put on his/her site.

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

I have a cable modem, so it wouldn't be too hard at all to go and get them all and post them up as usual, if need be. Yes/No? Agent Smith

Agent Smith, I vote yes. For the future, we could either try the contest forum as Spike suggested (although not being experienced in that area, I wonder if it still needs administration... leading us right back here), or --and here's a dicey proposition but one worth putting on the table-- we can take over the "administration" of the voting ourselves. If we stick to posting our images in the original challenge thread (which just requires Clay to link to it under the Bryce Forum banner early in the month), voting can take place in the same thread in which all the images appear. It should just require a couple of minor changes in our routines: (1) someone (the previous month's winner, perhaps?) should announce that time's up and it's time to vote, and (2) we as participants would have to be aware that only the images that are attached to the original thread are the ones that will be voted on. Thoughts?

I don't know how many others here have dialup, but a single thread laden with images is really hard on me. That's why I'm so much in favor of Spike's suggestion. Check out my entry in Penguinisto's crappy internet connection contest (attached link), and you'll see what I mean. :-( Certainly I don't expect special treatment, but I'll bet there are plenty of others in the U.S. with dialup who would appreciate that format. Not to mention those folks outside this country who still have to pay for connection time.

Yikes. Hadn't thought of that. Apologies for my cable-modem-induced blindness.

I appreciate your "Yikes," ajtooley. You musta taken a look at that link, huh? Pretty crappy, indeed. I do love living in the desert, but it has its drawbacks, too. If I could afford a satellite connection, I'd go for that. But....
