Subject: Modeling Forum Banner Contest!!

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 28 March 2002 at 3:27 PM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 1:40 PM

Greetings fellow modelers, In an attempt to "dress up" this forum, I have been allowed to run a banner contest. The winning banner will be prominently displayed in the "announcements" box at the top of this forum. Please review the rules below, and have fun with this. :) Cheers! MikeJ Renderosity Moderator Rules: Who is eligible? Every Renderosity member/ administrator/moderator is eligible to enter this contest! If you can go by the rules below, you can enter. 1) Obviously, the work must be your own original creation. 2) Your Banner must contain the words "Renderosity Modeling Forum". The text can be either 3D or 2D, but must be in there somewhere, and plainly legible. 3) The banner must contain at least 1 (one) 3D model which you have created yourself. This can be anything, text included, but it must be your original creation. There may be as many 3D objects in it as you wish, or only one, but there must be at least one which is your's, originally. 4) The banner dimensions MUST be 360 pixels in width, by 90 pixels in height. 5) The banner must be a still image in either GIF (.gif) or JPEG (.jpeg,*.jpg) format. Animated GIF banners will not be considered, and may not be entered in this contest. Banners which are animated will be disqualified. Please try to keep the file size as small as possible, with adequate compression. 6) No nudity will be allowed, due to the fact that there is no way to flag a forum with a nudity flag. Banners submitted containing nudity will be disqualified. 7) Any and all the postwork you see fit to do is acceptable. 8) All entries MUST be submitted in THIS thread. You may post it to your gallery if you wish, for whatever reasons, but if you do that, you MUST post a link to it in THIS thread, so it doesn't get missed or ignored. 9) You may enter as many banners as you wish. 10) You may sign your banner or not, as you see fit. A signature will not be a requirement, but it is recommended. If you sign it, please keep it small and unobtrusive, and in one of the lower corners. Timeline And Voting: This contest will begin at 12:00 A.M., CST Friday, March 29, and run for 2 weeks, ending at 12:00 A.M., CST Saturday, April 13. At the time when the contest has officially ended, the thread with the entries in it will be locked so no more entries can be placed in it. There will be a page with all the entries in it created at that time, and a new thread will be begun for voting. The voting shall be done by the members of Renderosity.com, and all members are welcome to vote, whether they have submitted a banner or not.. Prizes: There will be no prizes, except that the winner will have his/her banner displayed at the top of the Renderosity Modeling Forum.

someone might as well be first... the snail is an unreleased, fully poseable, Poser character, the trailer is a morphed version of an unreleased prop & the banner was modelled specifically for this graphic all modelled in lightwave, UV mapped, textured in PSP, & rendered in poser

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 2:23 AM

Cool!

Okay, here is mine, so I will be second The paint brush, hacksaw, hammer and lettering are all mine created in AutoCad, brought into UV mapper to section off groups, imported into Poser and rendered 1 wire frame and 1 solid, saved as tif, brought both Corel PhotoPaint, sharpened and added lens flare, used transparent brush to see wireframe. This entire graphics created specifically for this contest. Sharen

Thank you Sharen...looks good!

Here's my entry. One sphere is NURBS, the other is polygons. It's supposed to illustrate the two main methods of modeling.

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 4:51 PM

Cool idea, dethblud!

peejay ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 6:40 PM

erm silly question time, but I noticed cooler thinks the same as I do - shouldn't modelling have two 'l's ? Is this one of those transatlantic arguments about words, or is there a definitive answer? Does anybody know? Cool graphics BTW to all so far regards peejay

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 6:48 PM

I hadn't even noticed the spelling, but one "L" is all there is in "modeling". Although there seem to be alot of people who spell it with 2 L's.

cooler ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 6:53 PM

from... http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/3D-Modelling-1.html "The spelling modelling is Canadian. The spelling modeling is American." either is acceptable usage :-)

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 8:11 PM

Cool, that works for me. :)

Well, I did an attempt as well. Quite simple, but I might do another one if find some more spare time. The coffee cup is modeled in anim8or.

Ok, here's mine. Everything done in Max, no post work. Just a simple logo in a reflective case but thought it might look good.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 30 March 2002 at 8:07 PM

Cool! I'm very happy to see we're getting such good contributions for this. :)

Modeled & rendered in Cinema 4d... no post, other than reducing the image size. My apologies if this shows up twice; I tried posting once and got thrown out into limbo!

Okay a British entry, and the spelling MODELLING is the only correct version and it's English. Sorry chaps not being nasty, but the Americas were discovered by the Brits, and at the time your lot never even spoke the language, so the question is, do you do it to wind people up or just to save space in your dictionaries. Come to think of it, take CHIPS, you use them in a casino, we eat them with fish, so who's losing out there.

Anyway here is my entry. Don't expect you to accept it, but had to give it a go.

Andy

CrystalWizard ( ) posted Tue, 02 April 2002 at 3:01 PM

hmmm (rips open a bag of chips and munchs on them) not sure these'd work too well in a casino ;) (dips one in treacle) not bad though

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 02 April 2002 at 3:33 PM

That looks pretty cool, Andy, but it's supposed to say "Renderosity Model(l)ing Forum" in it somewhere.

Thanks for pointing that out MikeJ, have redone it a bit too. Even used MODELING, just for continuity.

Hope it's okay to enter twice. SORT OF.

Andy

Andy that is really cool looking, I like yours. Sharen

Thanks SHaren, was just thinking of using the Lenflare effect I spotted in your attempt, to give th skull a bit more pazzaz, maybe tomorrow. Anyway thanks for your comment and best of luck to you. In fact good luck to everyone, worse thing about these kind of contests is the fact that there can only be one winner. Later Andy

SAMS3D ( ) posted Tue, 02 April 2002 at 7:06 PM

Ah yes one winner, but we get to see all these cool pics in the meantime....very sweet....yes and good luck also to you all. Sharen

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 02 April 2002 at 8:26 PM

Andy , I think that one looks MUCH better, for sure. Yeah, you can enter with as many as you wish. :)

Okay here's a third version. I'm beginning to really get into this. Although it's hard to tell at this size, the skull, spheres and the test are partial wireframe rendering. Also added the lenflare, which I think adds a bit more depth to the image. Still think it needs something, but for now Idon't know what that might be. I'll take a break and think about it, perhaps I'll scrap the whole thing and start again. Andy

Hi, i'm very new to all this and i'm only 15 years old but i gave it a try. There are so beautiful other banners(so i won't win) but mayby u could give me just some advice. -thanks- The good effect of the image only looks good, if its bigger but i couldn't manage it to uploade my bigger version. bye

Imamik ( ) posted Wed, 03 April 2002 at 7:05 PM

what i almost forgot is, that i've rendered it in bryce 5 and modeled with amorphium. I also used Photodeluxe and Gimp. bye

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 9:48 PM

Cool! I never would have guessed you modeled that with Amorphium. I couldn't ever get Amorphium to do anything I wanted. Nice render and font, too.

Well how can I resist. As Imagine is the newest forum I decieded to represent it with an entry. This is done entirely in Imagine...no post work. All the letters in modelling and forum are created with a new Imagine technology called ZMESH.It's a kind of procedural/blob technique that allows adjacent objects to blend into one another smoothly by supplying filleting at the joints. It's new in Imagine 2.14.

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

Something simple and pretty decent assembled in Photoshop 5. "The rock" in the background its actually a sphere with a few magnets and a reflection map made in Poser, then i added a feedback effect to a transparent cube and finally i used ShadowLab to create that glow effect on the writing. Pretty kewl..huh ?! Cheers, Rick

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 4:58 AM

Allright, thanks for all the great banners! I'm locking this thread, only so no more entries can be submitted. Within the next 24-48 hours I'll have a page made with all of them on it for voting. Then we'll allow a week for voting, and it will be announced in a new thread here and in other forums here as well.
