Subject: Poser Tout-Spam emails?

pruiz ( ) posted Sun, 07 April 2002 at 10:09 AM ยท edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 1:00 AM

Anyone else received these? I received an unsolicited email from an (un-named) merchant from Renderosity MP which proposed "trying out" a new character package of his/hers because she/him "liked my gallery work" - parentheses are paraphrased. On asking how he she proposed to "get the package to me" ( I had visions of some sort of beta test) the reply was "here's the URL at the MP - it's available now". The URL was the commercial package available at $20!! I find this kind of touting to be reprehensible. Has anyone else experienced this activity and i wonder if it's coming from the same merchant?

yes, something similar, but why don't you state his name? and send your archived im to mods? i recently (today and a week before) got some mass ims about viewing galleries and other stuff.

yes, i get them from merchants whose products i have tried before. Tha is nto exactly what i would call spam. I have not seen that kind of chessball marketing , but clear refernces to prducts in the marketplace.

There is a feature in the Marketplace that allows vendors to email all of their customers at the same time. This is supposed to be for notifying customers of updates and fixes. Unfortunately, it sounds like some vendors are using this feature to look for repeat business.

It's not even repeat business - I never bought anything from this merchant before! This came out of the clear blue sky.

The vendors are getting hungrier and smarter since being asked not to use this forum to flog their wares, although many find ways around the rule such as asking opinions regarding new WIP's. The other advertising method being employed is to post freebie textures and add-ons to their products in Free-stuff with links to market place. Tommy.
