Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 10 1:16 pm)
The first two are easy: Poser can't find the necessary geometry files for something. The trackline has to be 100% accurate because Poser can be pretty stupid about things otherwise. The "out of memory" message is Poser's one-size-fits-all error message. It can't do something, so it goes into a snit, blames you, and shuts down, taking your work with it. The problem, again, is usually in the location of geometry files, so next time you get these messages, note what the track should be, repair the problem, and start over.

The "Out of memory" error is actually false- these errors are caused when the figure file (in this case, the cr2 file) can not find the needed geometry (obj) file. It actually has nothing to due with Poser running out of memory. The BEST way to handle these "errors", in my opinion, is to catch them before they happen. In other words, "look in" the cr2/ figure file for the files that it references and then "scan" your hard drive to see if you actually have these "referenced" files. But how do you know "look inside" a cr2 file? And won't a manual search (for all the files) take a long time? In fact, my new Poser Object Organizer Program does this (and more) for you. It works like Windows Explorer- you "expand" folders and then "expand" figure files to "look inside" them. Then, you can click on the referenced files and the program will find the actual location (or not) on your hard drive. If the file is not found, you'll know that the cr2 file will give you problems. If the file *is* found (but in another folder), the program can correct this "discrepancy". For more information, click on the link to the Marketplace (on my website) and then click on the program. --John

To look inside the .cr2 file, all you need is to open it with notepad or wordpad. Also, if the .obj file is not where it's supposed to be, just use the "find" feature. If it's on your hard drive you'll find it that way (unless the name has been changed, then you're just outta luck). Here's another helpful hint - Poser is very strictly case sensitive. If you have even one letter capitalized that shouldn't be, or not capitalized that should be, Poser won't be able to find the .obj file.

Hello out there, I'm new to Poser or I should say I'm just getting into it. I have Poser 4.0.3 running on a Dell Precision 330 Pentium 4, 256kb SRAM. I use Cadd and 3d modeling programs and they perform just fine. I've just started downloading characters and some work beautifully and some just hang up with the same error. For instance, I downloaded and installed Arduino's p4v2wwg2 character ( yes, I want everything in my virtual woman) very carefully according to his directions using the Mover 101 utility, when I try to change figure or add figure I get the following messages:
Error
"Cannot open Runtimegeometriesapgeometriesp4v2wwg.obj"
I click OK and then:
"Cannot open resource file Runtimegeometriesapgeometriesp4v2wwg.obj"
I click Ok again:
"You are out of memory!
Please save your work and quit soon. You may also need to increase the amount of memory allocated to Poser."
Then the program freezes or I'am able to shut down thru Task Manager
This has happened with several character files.
I notice that while poser is on but no file loaded and no operations being performed, the CPU Usage scale is jumping all over the place sometimes just sitting at 100% and then going up and down repeatedly.
I can find instructions for changing memory allocation on a MAC but not for a PC.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Kurt
