Subject: I am not out of Memory!

deep breath Ok, I'm getting the "out of memory" error. Now I just upgraded my computer to a 1.8 Ghz P4 processer with 512 of memory.
Can Poser really not handle 2 millenium figures plus a few props and the clothing?

Just before getting the error I had downloaded a free stuff file and unzipped it. My figures were in place, fully clothed when I tried to put the boots on him. I don't know what happened but the boots never materialized and next thing I knew the program had shut down. It was just gone. Then I tried, instead of Mike2, the p4Mike. As soon as I tried to put the clothes he had on (purchased here in the Marketplace) I got the "can't open....".

I just opened a new document, loaded Mike and tried to put the clothes on him. Same damn error message.

What went wrong? Was it the file I downloaded?

I am into my third...uh, ...tasting of a fine Merlot and...uh,.. am certainly not in the same league as most of the people who regularly dwell here, but your problem is not a cause for serious concern. Cruise the "Search" mechanism with "key words", blah, blah..and you should find a host of answers to your query. This whole site has all the answers you need. And if they don't..:-)..you have set them to a task that will benefit all of us. Welcome and enjoy. p.s your machine sounds more than adequate to the task. Many of us have...HD..Memory..envy?

Find the geometry rsr. That's a file with the extension rsr and the same name as the obj that came with your boots. It's in the geomtries folder. Delete it. Poser will make a new one next time you try to use the boots.

See! Ajax has an answer. The floodgates open. Wallow!

I've already deleted the whole boots file. (out of frustration) What's happening is one of the clothing items I was using is not loading even into a blank screen. I have a feeling the clothing figure was selected when I tried to add the boots which were in the character file (as per the creators directions). I shut down the whole program in frustration last night but I'm going to have to re-install the clothes.
..and hope that works.

In most cases, re-installing the item will not replace the rsr file. You will need to hunt it down and kill it personally. If the problem really is a corrupted rsr then this is the only way to fix it. The same thing can happen with Posette or Vicky or any Poser figure. Typically it happens when Poser crashes while you have that item in the scene. It may not have been caused by the boots at all. Open your cr2 file in a text editor and look at the file path at the top. You will see the location of the obj file. Go there, find a file with the same name as the obj but with the extension "rsr" and delete it.

It worked. I ended up having to delete the rsr for all the clothing pieces in the folder but I got it to work. Thanks for the help. :) Now to play with the boots. I know so little about the different files but it was a good freestuff item with no com restrictions so I'd love to get it to work.

Thanks again.
