THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: DXF Files

I got Bryce about three months ago, and finally came to the point of searching the web for objects that were either too complex for me to create myself, or I needed in a hurry. I read the thread here about which files can be imported into Bryce5, and included in the list are files int eh .dxf format. However, whenever I try to import one of these files, Bryce crashes and shuts down. What's going on?

The file itself may be corrupt or it may be too large for Bryce or your RAM. A lot of folks report crashes when importing files larger that 2-3 megs.

Yup! I depend's on 3 things. 1.how much ram u have. 2.How big the dxf file is in mega bytes. 3.The dxf version number. Post more details for more help!

So far, it seems that any and every .dxf crashes Bryce. I'd have to go back and check the files sizes, but they were fairly low poly renders with simple textures.

Can you uload one these dxf files somewhere so we can have a look at it?

There are 2 types of DFX files, Polyline or Face. Bryce will import both, but it has a harder time converting a Polyline ( which is strange because it's usually the smaller file size of the 2 ) If the file is a big size it could very well be crashing Bryce. But I used to experience the same thing. I couldn't import any DFX files ( no matter which type they where ) It seemed one day Bryce just quit importing them, ( even files I was able to import at an earlier date ) Guess something got corrupt or changed the way my machine read DFX files. When I finally did a reformat to my hard drive Bryce started importing DFX and has ever since.

Alright, false alarm people :P Apparently, I was just very unlucky, and both .dxf files were corrupted. I downloaded another file and it worked fine. "We apologize for the inconvenience."

Here is my solution to the DXF problem: I have "Poser 4", "3D Studio Max" & "Bryce". What I do is Import the file to Poser and then export it as a smaller size in a different format like .obj or .3ds, it works great . And it loads into Bryce much faster too. I hope that helps someone. Dwmdesigner
