Subject: Need feedback on project

I've been working on creating a circus-type tent in Rhino, which I will eventually convert to a Poser scene prop with textures applied to it. I'd like to get some feedback on it, perhaps a few suggestions that could make it better. Also, what kind of textures would you like to see? I've imported it into Bryce for rendering.

I'm not a circus-goer, but looks like a nice tent! Suggestions: Put a pole through the top, too (or does something internal hold it up?) For textures, it seems that primary colors are used, normally tarp-type material, so a heavily-painted-denim kind of bump map, and -- lots of dirt! :)

That's what it's missing! A center pole. You're absolutely right. And plenty of dirt! Thanks.

One more suggestion: guy lines (ropes)

Here are a few tent pictures that might help you. I needed them for a Flash project a while ago. Ma

It's not that funny... jeez...

Barbarellany ( ) posted Tue, 16 April 2002 at 1:21 AM

the center pole should have a nice little flag flying from it. Morphable of course so we can have a windy effect.

6Dprime ( ) posted Tue, 16 April 2002 at 1:37 AM

Or you could host it in Cinema 4D and have wind effects on the whole tent, including the flag. With no morphs... But a flag would be nice.

This is very nice! Pole and flag - that's what it needs. And maybe a short covered entrance, a sort of 'tunnel'. Oh, and lines going out to great big pegs in the ground around, holding it up....... :] FishNose

Hey what a great model, very good work too. Sharen

usually have 2 major poles where the tightrope walker and trapeze guys can anchor their stuff to...

Nukeboy ( ) posted Tue, 16 April 2002 at 10:31 AM

I personally hate clowns, and therefore, circuses (circi?). But this tent would make a great Mongol Yurt!

webdancer ( ) posted Tue, 16 April 2002 at 11:05 AM

Great! Thanks for all the ideas. The morphable flag would be great, if I can do it. I've not made any morphable objects yet. The guide ropes I can do and I will also try to add them to the inside the tent so some renderings could be made. How about seating? Maybe like the old gym-type bleechers? If anyone has any more ideas, please let me know.

orangeparty ( ) posted Tue, 16 April 2002 at 7:22 PM

as for textures, it would be nice to have some circus ads along the side panels - "Come see Jumbo, the world's smartest Hefalump" etc.

bknoh ( ) posted Tue, 16 April 2002 at 7:34 PM

What is it about clowns....I am only afraid of 3 things: high places, small, tight places where you can't move and CLOWNS! Maybe I am not really afraid of them, they just creep me out. I know some people say it is the makeup and the fact they are hiding who they are, but I think it is more than that. Ewwwwww, creepy!

I've heard of people being afraid of clowns as well. I think it's the white make-up. Kind of ghoulish looking. The ads are a great idea. I think I even have some old clip art books that have circus-type ads in them. I'll have to chek that out. In the meantime, I'm working on making the tent more oval, so I can fit in two posts for those trapeze artists.

My observation on clowns is that they delight in scaring the living daylights out of kids, and it's the parents that think it's funny, not the kids. The silly makeup makes it all that more of a gruesome sick joke, as it's a paradox, and paradoxes tend to stick in one's mind, especially when two opposite emotions are placed in counter-position. Should I laugh like "I'm supposed to" or scream? Must scream, can't scream. Must laugh, can't laugh. Very sticky stuff.

Most of my childhood was spent thinking, "What the heck is wrong with these stupid grown-ups?" so I just thought the clowns ought to get more productive jobs and make a practical contribution to society and stop, well, clowning around. I was a weird kid.
