Hi everyone- Over the last week or so I had the opportunity to beta test Extreme Morph 3D, a new software application by David John Fielder (best known as Konan of Innuendo Software in the various Poser forums). He had mentioned a few months back that he was going to make a program so easy to use that even your dog would be able to create morphs for poser figures. While I haven't yet met a canine that could hold a mouse, if you can get a grip on one, then you're about to have your world rocked. While previous Innuendo software products (Natural Pose, Maximum Pose...etc.) have been about bridging the gap between Poser and other applications such as 3D Studio Max and Bryce, Extreme Morph 3D bridges the gap between Poser and your creative ideas. This amazing program carries a powerful set of morphing tools that even poser newbies can sink their teeth into. At the same time, more experienced users and even texture artists will be able to get a lot out of it. About the Program: The program, which runs independently of poser, allows you to "paint" on the part of your figure you want to morph, and through a few simple click and drags manipulate the shape until you get what you want. There are even several tools such as "Select by Material", "Hide selection", and "Lock Selection" which allow you to morph only the parts you want to. Other selection tools include the ability to use a small Targa (TGA) image as a selection brush shape, and a selection softening feature which helps get rid of hard edges when creating a morph so you get something smooth and natural. My personal favorite thing about the whole program is the ability to select based on a UV map. That's right! Even if all you've ever done outside of poser has been to manipulate or create texture maps, this software allows you to use the same talents to create morphs. Want your poser figures to have a morph beard that matches the texture map exactly? No problem! Just paint the parts you want to morph white over black on a UV based map, import it into the program and viola! Your parts are selected and ready to be morphed. With this software, you don't need to know anything about polygons or vertices to manipulate your object file. Once you've selected the parts you want, there are several options for morphing, including: Smoothing, resizing, pinching, bulging, moving, and rotating. All are easily used through click and drags. Other great features of this program include Multiple views at once and creation of full body morphs. While I've been a professional animator and an avid Poser user for a few years, I have never been able to successfully create a morph I was satisfied with. I've relied on other people to create the morphs I needed, and if they didn't exist, I asked around the forums hoping someone would be kind enough to help me out. After a few minutes with Extreme Morph 3D, I was creating Morphs I only used to dream about being able to do. In 10 minutes I gave Michael a Mohawk and beard ala Mr.T ("I pity the fool who thinks he can't create a morph"). About Innuendo Software: I purchased Maximum Pose 2 for a project a while back. I paid 75 dollars at the time and got something even better than just a great program. If I have ever encountered a problem in the use of the software, Konan has been there for me. Often he gets back to me within a few hours of my email, depending on the time of day. He has never failed to figure out what was causing a problem, and those problems are extremely rare. The quality of his free technical support puts some of the major players to shame. I have beta tested multimedia software for a lot of companies (if you are reading this, there is a 90% chance that I've beta tested and made suggestions for some of the software on your PC or Mac), and like some of the best software companies out there, Konan balances creativity with knowledge and openness to new ideas. While both Metacreations and Corel relied on grandfathered code, essentially leaving Poser incompatible with Bryce despite the public demand, Konan said he could do it - and he did. I could go on and on about Innuendo software and its products, but I think they speak for themselves. Konan offers a demo of every one of his applications, all which you can download at his site - http://innuendo.ev.ca - (the Demo for XM3D should be there very soon if it isn't already). I think you'll be amazed at what your capable of once you have the right tools. I know I was. Just so you know, I dont work for Innuendo or get paid by them for writing this. I am an animator at Nickelodeon/MTV who has been involved in the development of a lot of software, and knows a good product when he sees it. Have fun posing. Aharon Rabinowitz

i've been wasting time on a trying to get a morph target to grow teeth for about a week. did mcreations intentionally leave out steps on how to do stuff? hey eventually i'll get it but so much time down the drain. i'll check it out.

Sounds great! Thank you for telling us about it. :)

A wonderful comercial - I will have a look if it beats Code Twisters Morph Master as soon as a demo is out.

That's what I think to. This post is no review, I cannot imagine how the program works. The detailed description of Innuendo Software just helps to make it a sales show.

Hey there- Sorry if it sounds like a commercial. I'm not a writer, and I'm also no salesman. I'm just an animator who really likes the product. And if you can use Poser, than this will be a breeze. It wasn't meant as a sales pitch, but if the word "review" bothers you, then think of it as "a description of how great I think the product is, with a comprehensive list of features I like." ;-) As far as my description of Innuendo goes - I felt it needed to be said, and I stand by it. No matter how wonderful a product, If the support is poor, the product is only good until you have a problem that keeps you from being productive with it. There are a lot of companies out there that you pay big bucks for software and then get little or no help when you need it (can anyone say microsoft or metacreations?). I find that when i have a problem with software I bought, some Tech support reps will do everything to put the ball back in my court so that they don't have to take the time to help me. Every time they ask you: "Well, did you try this?" you have to respond and then wait a day until they write back and say: "Well did you try that?" and then it sarts all over again. I bought my software from innuendo and have been extremely happy with it's performance and the high level of support I got. Ususally Konan's been able to help me within a day, while it's not in realtime, it is pretty close. OK, so maybe it's not a conventional review in that it considers the bigger picture. Regardless, if you think I'm talking out of my rear, DON'T LISTEN TO ME!!!!! Go try it for yourself. Best regards, Aharon

Thanks for posting about this new program. It's nice someone does, not like everyone can keep up with all the cool things on the net these days. :o) To Ron and bantha: If you can't imagine it, go download the demo and fiddle with it. That'll give you the best idea of what it does.

Irfanview is NOT by Innuendo Software. The readme says: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- File : 'about.txt' - Info about IrfanView Author: Irfan Skiljan E-Mail: irfan@linux.tuwien.ac.at WWW : http://www.irfanview.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey, I did not say anything against Innuendo Software. Irfanview is needed for picture conversion, that is the reason why it is linked there. Truespace probably dont like JPG-Textures, so Irfanview does the conversion. I use Irfanview very often. It's a wonderful software. By the way, does the "Extreme Morph" work for you? on my Computer it does not run. It stopps with an error as soon as I click something.

some of the problems you may experience might be related to open GL. Your best bet is to make sure that you have the lates video drivers FROM THE MAKERS OF YOUR VIDEO CARD - Microsoft gives old drivers with their software, so get them from the actual companies website. It may solve your problem, it may not. Aharon

bantha ( ) posted Wed, 17 April 2002 at 5:13 PM

It does not. I have the latest driver for my radeon vide chip. There is nothing newer. But I will try on my second computer tomorrow. THere 's a NVidea Graphics adapter running, maybe it works there.

You should definately email Konan about this. Give him the exact error message. In the past He's gone as far as tailoring the software to a speciffic computer's quirks so it couldn't hurt to let him know.

bantha, I hope you'll be able to run the program on your computer. BTW, trueSpace has no problems with JPEG textures. :)
