Subject: Newsletter Improvement Adress

cainbrogan ( ) posted Wed, 17 April 2002 at 8:09 PM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 3:59 AM

Dear R-Sity, I love getting the newsletter every so often, but for the shear quality of data its promoting, the image to text ratio could use improvement. Thumbs should be included with most of the articles...I'd, as would many others, have the patience and resources to load this file, as often as it is published, if this information were added. I'm an aviid surfer, with my trusty dusty 1.5 MB Motorola Surfboard, whom stears way clear of fad/spam mail, so when I do get a newsletter it's nice to see and e-mail from as interesting a sender as renderosity.com! Any reply will be appreciated! Sincerely, Cain Brogan = )

hello there! we decided to go with text only because we get feedback from people telling us they want very fast load times/download times. in the future, we may offer a 'pdf' or 'pretty' version with images, and make it an option in the member profile. thanks so much for your feedback! audre

firefly ( ) posted Wed, 17 April 2002 at 10:09 PM

Oh, please don't do it in PDF. I won't read it. I absolutely hate adobe reader! It's one thing to read tutorials and white papers from it but not a newsletter! HTML would be best I think.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 9:05 AM

I agree wityh the idea that HTML would be much easyer to open, than PDFs. Any idea when this opion may becaome available? I really do enjoy recieving the newsletter, but as I say there is way too much reading involved, especially considering the topics. = )

Sipapu ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 9:14 AM

Text only is fine with me, but if you do go with a "pretty" version, I much prefer HTML too. Please DO consider it over PDF.

audre ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 9:18 AM

there is way too much reading involved chuckle yeah there is alot going on. grin these are ideas at this stage. not sure when/if/how it will migrate to the next stage and be implemented. what we will probably do is try to get feedback and then evaluate it all. if it looks like the majority of members really would like this then we can move it from the 'idea' stage to the 'action plan' stage.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 10:36 AM

SHould this be mentioned in other forums, or just left here to evolve? = )

audre ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 10:59 AM

<or just left here to evolve

i would say give us a bit. we are doing major server upgrades at the moment.

firefly ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 11:13 AM

Oh cool, that means the "renderosity is slow" thread is being addressed?!

audre ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 11:40 AM

LOL yup. the servers have been upgraded many many times... this time hopefully we can jump ahead of the curve a bit more!

firefly ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 11:46 AM

Awesome :) Tell the team Thanks!!

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 12:37 PM

OK! Now, so not as to let this thread mold into mossyness, I guess I'd just like to add a few words to attract attention here. I've threaded this thought on a previous accoasion, but since then that thread has withered into the bleak of winter nothingness... I'm very really appreciative of all the additional comments that have been posted here, by all whom feel the same way I do about the graphic realestate potential of the Renderosity News Letter!

firefly ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 8:43 PM

I quite agree Cainbrogan. A newsletter should reflect the community from whence it comes. It should be informative, attractive and professional looking. The purpose of a newsletter is to convey noteworthy information quickly to a broad spectrum of people. Adding a slightly new twist to, my feeling is that our newsletter should not be limited to Renderosity members either. Our newsletter would be a great marketing/networking tool to communicate Renderosity's great talents to all related industries! The newsletter should also be available online with it's own link in the sidebar under the Renderosity heading. Now, having said all that, Audre is an experienced editor and idea magician. Sipapu is knowledgeable in Marketing. I'm sure they would have some cool ideas and thoughts.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 12:25 AM

I agree with your Marketing Potential, and Domestic Storage ideas 100%. The News Letter should really be a hard selling point of renderosity's. I myself do'nt always feel like doing all of the reading the letter requires, and would benefit from having the file available online. = )

Sipapu ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 6:18 AM

Thanks for the mention, firefly, but I don't work on the newsletter - only the mag. Nonetheless, I totally agree with your suggestions and ideas. :-)

hey! the newsletter IS available online anytime in the Forum News and Team Contact Forum: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12357 in the 'header' of the forum, you will see graphic link/buttons to the marketplace and the general newsletters. i am the person who puts the monthly out. actually if someone is interested in working up a 'pretty' version of the newsletter each month, i would be more than happy to provide both version for people to browse! thanks again for your support and feedback.

Audre do you know what? I just ordered a 10 Dreamweaver movie. I may watch it a few times or more within the next month or sow. If I do I'd love to have the honor of this task. = )

cool beans! you are on!

firefly ( ) posted Sat, 20 April 2002 at 8:01 PM

Way to go cainbrogan :) Let me know if you ever need backup and I'll try to give you a hand :) Aure, I'm so sorry..... I guess I had gotten used to seeing the market place weekly and the monthly newsletter tags at the top of the forum page that I stopped seeing them after awhile and then forgot about them. (hiding face in shame) How does the idea of putting a link to the monthly newsletter in the sidebar under Renderosity?

LrdSatyr8 ( ) posted Sun, 21 April 2002 at 4:17 PM

I've got an idea... instead of sending out a newsletter all the time, just send out a link to an online newletter... that way you can create one source and then just send a link to the current newsletter and make it any way you want with all the graphics you nee to illustrate a point and everyone is happy. Then you can keep all the newsletters archived online for perosing at our leasure! Whatcha think?

cainbrogan ( ) posted Sun, 21 April 2002 at 5:26 PM

Hmmm, that is a lot of assumption. Say we do'nt want the HTML code available in our mailboxes and I'm sold. Else, the now HTML, Non-HTML, Link toggle idea needs to be addressed. Maybe this could be Member Profile element. = )

cainbrogan ( ) posted Sun, 12 May 2002 at 7:48 PM

OK since my last visit here I've come to understand much of what audre is asking for, and have started a newer thread at http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12375&Form.ShowMessage=697979. Basically, she's saying all she can do is add a text based link onto the already over texted Newsletter that links to an edited/graphic version of it online, because the renderosity e-mail utility does not process .eml, nor html if it has graphics in it. What I'm asking in the new post is whether or not this path to an improved Newletter is worth it. What do we all think? It's kind of sad, so far(In the past couple days) I've been the only contributor to new post. This is what I'm afraid of, I've a sneaky suspicion my efforts will be overlooked. = )
