Subject: Artist Favorite List

pendarian ( ) posted Wed, 17 April 2002 at 2:25 PM · edited Thu, 07 November 2024 at 5:28 PM

I don't know if this has been proposed before, or if it can be done BUT....is there a way that we can mark the galleries of our favorite artists, or new artists that we wish to follow their work without slugging it out everyday with the All Gallery choice? No, not through our browsers...browsers crash, bookmarks can be lost or we could be at a different computer. I'm thinking something along the lines of a wish list type of thing where we can add artists to a special page so we can go there and click into their galleries....the search function is okay, as long as you know or can remember the artist's name...but sometimes when they are new you don't remember their name and others you just plain forget sometimes and with the search function, pretty much anytime an artist is named in someone else's comments, you get those pages also.... I would really like to see a favorite artist list that we can just click on when we come to the site. That way we can look at those first thing, before we go to look at the rest of the galleries. Is this possible? Does this request make any sense? Thanks! Pendy

You can already do this to an extent..."search" for your artist...but I understand what you are saying.

Yeah, a search doesn't do you any good if you can't remember the name, and all the search does is bring up every image that the artists name is mentioned in, so if you are looking up someone and an image has their name in the comments area it will bring up that image also. I searched for Morris for example and got way more then just her images as a result.

To expand on your idea, I'd like to be notified when the artist has posted a new image. But in the meantime the program at this link, "Internet Slideshow," basically let's you "click" thru a sequence of URLs. For what you want to do, when you've found an artist you want to "track" go to their Gallery Pages and capture the URL for the "Slideshow." It's not my preference either, but it'll do for now.

yes, it would be nice if you were notified about a new image, I would like that also :)

Michelle A. asked for this not long ago. Maybe we could combine the votes of that thread with the votes here. I would definitely like to have this option and I think that many others would too. :)

They don't have to change the software in order to set up a link to your "Favorite Artist". Just bookmark the attached link.

pendarian ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 6:26 PM

Well, let's hope it gets more notice this time :) Being asked for in more then one thread may help, ya think?

pendarian ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 6:30 PM

With your browser? I don't want to do that. I've lost too many bookmarks and had too many browsers go south on me. I would like to see something done here on site if possible.

Legume ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 7:47 PM

Jeez. I sure hate to ruin a joke by explaining it, Pendy ;)

pendarian ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 8:23 PM

I'm sorry sweetie...I'm slow of wit this evening. Spent the afternoon outside with yard work and every bone and muscle in my poor little body aches, so my mind is rather foggy. Please forgive :)

Legume ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 8:36 PM

Well, then I'll explain it for you...I said to bookmark that link because it was to MY gallery...a bit of faux egotism as if I was everyone's favorite artist.

pendarian ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 8:39 PM

Well, I GOT that part of it silly LOL!!!!!! And actually it is already bookmarked :) So not quite as slow as I thought I was hehehehe....whew, at least I got that one!

Legume ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 8:45 PM

Guess we're both slow tonight. Want some Chex mix?

firefly ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 8:49 PM

Ok, so I'm not going crazy.... well, at least not today (grin). I thought that I had posted to this thread or one just like it very recently! I agree this would be a very beneficial feature to many. Glad you posted the link Sue88! Maybe we should cross-link this over there too. (on my way to do that now)

pendarian ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 9:01 PM

Ohhhhh...chex mix sounds wonderful :) Thanks pal!!

Sue88 ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 7:15 AM

Good idea, firefly. :) I think many people would really like to have this option. It could be added to the "Member Options" area. Maybe in the galleries there could be a box you could check to "Add this artist to my favorites list" or something like that and a "Notify me if this artist posts a new image".

pendarian ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 11:21 AM

That sounds really good Sue..now if we could just get it done, or even a nod from PTB.

Sue88 ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 1:50 PM

Thanks, Pendy, I thought so myself. ;) I think we need more votes. Maybe we should tell others about this thread in the other forums. I'm going to post a message about it in the trueSpace and Poser forums.

j_campbell ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 2:35 PM

I definitely would like a favorite artist option.

tonymouse ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 9:33 PM

I too would love to be able to access favorite artists and track. the search way is quite a hassle . You have my vote .

If I remember correctly there is a service online that will track whether or not a web page has changed... the link to it was http://www.netmind.com I remember because back when I first started doing web pages, I gave viewers the option of being notifed by mail when the page changed. I just tried going to that address and it appears to be down however the service still comes up in web searches. Very odd!

This has been suggested. We do have this on our list. thanks tammy

CrystalWizard ( ) posted Tue, 30 April 2002 at 6:03 PM

along with that would be the suggestion to do what webshots does. they provide an option to the user to show who has the user listed as a favorite.
